It rattled the Rose Bowl on Saturday night, an inescapable feature of the 2019 Gold Cups opening-night soundtrack. And in one sense, it was alarming: Here, on international television, in front of some 65,000 people, was an anti-gay slur, the Spanish equivalent of f*****, being hurled in unison by hundreds of fans at an opposing goalkeeper.
Last year, in Russia, with a comprehensive crackdown that coerced cooperation out of the FMF. Global soccers governing body opened disciplinary proceedings after the chant accompanied German goal kicks during Mexicos World Cup opener. FIFA not only fined the Mexican federation, but threatened more sanctions. It also promised to revoke Fan IDs essentially tickets and eject anybody caught yelling the slur.
The team responded with pleas to its supporters: NO GRITES P***. Prominent players reiterated the message. But their reasoning was problematic. Lets not risk another sanction, Javier Chicharito Hernandez said. And Marco Fabián: There are different rules now. It would be a shame for [fans] to not be allowed in. ... We should [try to] avoid punishments. One reason CONCACAF might be keeping its Gold Cup messaging vague: Many executives and observers argue that reprimands targeting the chant only strengthen fans resolve. The climax, theyve noticed, becomes even more forceful in defiance.

Do they at least get their chicks for free?
Apparently, they still have free speech in Mexico.
I worked in a very ethnically diverse office that had a fair amount of latinos.
What I enjoyed about them is that they got away with saying anything short of the N-word. And that gave the rest of us cover to be equally outrageous. None of it was mean spirited but all of it would have made liberal heads explode and could have gotten us fired.
It was a Politically Correct Human Resource Social Justice Warrior’s vision of Hell. Good times.
So tell me again why Hispanics are going to vote for the quiffery Ds put out daily as a campaign issue?
Short answer: they aren’t.
(Angel, in the Wild Bunch, screamed it at his ex, just before he shot her. Always wondered.)
What is it?
The Cubans in high school used to throw around maricon all the time.
As long as they dont call someone a faggot.
Marícon or joto is what I always heard.
Rednecks would do the same. I don’t really mind people expressing anti-homosexual opinions, do you?
ahhhhh puto!
It’s the one good thing the Mexicans do.
If they detest faggotry, they're a step up from too many alleged Americans.
Where Im from which is the same area as you, a PUTO by itself means many things, none of them nice. A puto joto is a male, faggot whore. Merely calling someone a PUTO at a soccer game is the same as calling him a pussy in our speak. The yahoo writer merely wanted to get clicks, which he did out of me, Im ashamed to say.
the first album is the bomb. Even at my age, I listen to it from time to time. Saw them live 3x back in the day..
LOL, watching the Mexico-Canada game now, the “PUTO” is louder than ever.
