The House passes an expansive election security bill, hoping to pressure the Senate majority leader, Mitch McConnell, to lift his blockade. Pelosi: "The G.O.P. Senate and the White House are giving foreign countries the green light to attack."

This bill includes mandatory paper backup ballots, mandatory audits, authorized $600m in election tech grants and new requirements for election tech vendors and operators.

There is parallel legislation in the Senate. But as our story notes, it is not going anywhere for now.

Colleagues say McConnell opposes the federal government wading further into election admin, traditionally carried out by states He's expressed confidence that '17 Russia sanctions, $380m in grants allocated last year & executive branch actions have set the country on the rt path.

I think the above should be supported for federal offices at the very least. This way federal elections are protected (states if they want it) represents the perfect middle ground between federal and state authority IMHO. Plus both parties can claim the points
