FAVORITE CABLE & TV SPY SERIES SHOWS
Vanity | 06-15-2019 | Captain Peter Blood

Posted on 06/15/2019 11:40:40 AM PDT by Captain Peter Blood

Of late I have been watching what I consider to be some pretty good spy shows. So I am going to list them.

I have ROKU and most of these I found available on streaming channels.

Epix Channel:

Here is found two really good shows worth watching:

"Berlin Station" series set in modern Berlin of the CIA station there.

"Deep State": Modern day spy series set in the U.S., England, and the Middle East. The plot is pretty believable and concerns the Military Industrial Complex.

On Showtime I have been binge watching "Homeland". Great show and plot, I have just finished watching the first two seasons and have been riveted. It is my understanding the last couple of seasons got a little to PC and such.

On Amazon I found a real jewel called "The Game". It is a period spy series set in the 1970's England and concerns a hunt for a mole in MI5. The actors are great and story very well done.

There is another one I found on Amazon to buy called "Counterpart" that is on the Starz channel. It's about a hapless UN employee who discovers the agency he works for is hiding a gateway to a parallel dimension that's in Cold War with our own, and where his other self is a top spy. The war slowly heats up thanks to spies from both sides.

I generally like a well done spy show and the ones I listed are those I just happen to have found and enjoyed.

Anyone who has any really good recommendations let me know what they are and I will put them on my list.

Stawka większa niż życie (More Than Life at Stake, Stakes Larger Than Life or Playing for High Stakes) was a Polish black and white TV series about the adventures of a Polish secret agent, captain Hans Kloss (real name, Stanisław Kolicki, codename J-23), who acts as a double agent in the Abwehr during Second World War in occupied Poland.

I would recommend “The Americans”. The full series is available on Amazon Prime.
It is about a couple who are deep cover Soviet spies in Washington D.C. in the eighties. It is one of my favorite series that I have watched streaming. Great acting, great characters, and really riveting stories.

Perhaps the only vanity post I have found worthwhile. Thanks.

I don’t know whether it ranks as “best”, but I watched Rubicon which was so convoluted that I wanted to watch it again... and I can’t find it anywhere. https://couchpop.com/tv/rubicon/ says it is not available on Amazon, Hulu or Netflix.

There was an old series in 1978 that ran a while called the Sandbaggers. It was pretty interesting.

MI5 on Netflix is pretty good.
In typical British fashion, they knock off the main character(s) after about 8 episodes. We were shocked. Not like 24hrs, where you know that whatever happens, Jack Bauer ain’t dyin’.

Counterpart was very good. My wife and I kept referring to the two worlds as “East Berlin” and “West Berlin.”

Does Orphan Black count as a spy series? If so, it was fantastic!

“The Americans,” is excellent. Right now I’m hooked on “Turn: Washington’s Spies” on Netflix, a dramatization of the Culper spy ring during the American Revolution. It’s very well done, and has several quite overt references to the confiscation of private firearms and the consequences thereof.

I also love the spy genre. Counterpart was good. I loved MI5. Oldie but goodie...La Femme Nikita. Homeland got boring after a bit. Love your post as I’m always looking for new ones to watch.

The Punisher, though it’s Marvel comics, is entertaining.

On Netflix.
