WHY NBC GOT RID OF JAY LENO

News is leaking out from Hollywood executives in-the-know that the Obama White House had been leaning on, pressuring executives at NBC for two years to replace Jay Leno because the comedian was criticizing Obama every night. Obama didn't like it and considered it a racist attack on him.

After data came to light that $100's of millions had been spent on First Family vacations during a recession, Mrs. Obama's unpopular new laws that changed food in America's schools and other negative news including the disastrous Obamacare roll-out & website mess, Jay Leno took his comedy to a new level and his ratings skyrocketed -- none of the other comics were so bold. NBC couldn't stomach the fact that Leno's jokes about Obama were always right on target about the first black president.. And left-leaning Democrat executives at NBC were being harassed by Obama himself who thought the comedy was a racist attack on him.

GOLDEN OLDIES FROM JAY: "I was going to start off tonight with an Obama joke, but I don't want to get audited by the IRS."

On NSA surveillance: "We wanted a president who listens to all Americans -- now we have one."

On a new IRS commissioner: "He's called 'acting commissioner' because he has to act like the scandal doesn't involve the White House."

On closing the Guantanamo prison for terrorists: "If he really wants to close it, turn it into a government-funded solar power company. The doors will be shut in a month."

Concerning the Benghazi, Associated Press, and IRS scandals: "Remember in the old days when President Obama's biggest embarrassment was Joe Biden?"

On saying he didn't know about the IRS scandal: "He was too busy not knowing anything about Benghazi to not know anything about the IRS."

"The White House has a new slogan about Benghazi: Hope and change the subject."

"It's casual Friday, which means that at the White House, they're casually going through everybody's phone calls and records."

"It is not looking good for President Obama. Today his teleprompter took the fifth."

"Fox News has changed its slogan from 'Fair and Balanced' to 'See, I told you so!'"

On commencement address: "He told the young graduates their future is bright unless, of course, they want jobs."

On a Chicago man who set a record for riding a Ferris wheel: "The only other way to go around and around in a circle that many times is to read the official report on Benghazi."

On White House claims of ignorance on the scandals: "They took 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' out of the Pentagon and moved it into the White House."

Now the last and I think best..... "These White House scandals are not going away anytime soon. It's gotten so bad that people in Kenya are now saying he's 100 percent American."

I love Leno as the mechanic in “Last Man Standing”, also cancelled by ABC for the same reasons. Tim Allen is a conservative.

Exactly. Jay came to the end of his contract and wanted to leave. Then, of course, it true Jay fashion, he didn’t want to leave. By then it was too late. He was also involved in a huge dustup with David Letterman over who would host the Tonight Show. It might not be PC to say it but he was the bad guy in that situation, not Letterman.

I think Leno wanted to leave after the HORRIBLE debacle over the host succession plan at The Tonight Show--a place concocted by one Jeff Zucker (then-NBC President and now President of CNN). Besides, Leno can make $400,000 per week from doing comedy stand-up shows in Las Vegas, so....

Leno was pretty good.He was certainly no Carson but he was light years better than the talentless punks that are on now.

One line I recall from him (I didn't watch often) was when he was talking about wetbacks and he said "everybody knows that they're undocumented democrats".

And interesting comment from a showbiz big shot.

Leno is hilarious on that show. When ABC cancelled it, Fox picked it up, and it seems to be doing great on Fox, too. Mike Row is great, too, when he’s on as Allen’s brother.

I heard ABC got pissed when they learned Tim Allen went to Trump’s inauguration.

He actually called my house once. My daughter’s best friend’s mother was a friend of Leno’s at U-Mass. They were going to visit him in LA, and stay over at his place. He called my house to talk to my daughter. I was in the room but did not participate in the call. I don’t think it was a Roman Polansky thing, he’s just a genuinely nice guy. My daughter never went, the trip fell through for whatever reason.

Obama targeted reporters with jail and snooping. Here he allegedly persecuted a comedian who was not “with the program”.

He is also great with Tim Allen on Last Man Standing! Love seeing them together! Hector Elizondo, I don’t know where he stands politically, but he and the black actor (I don’t know his name), but they all play really well off each other on that show.

When O’Brien’s contract neared its end and he was courted by other networks in 2001, NBC extended his contract and guaranteed him he would be the fifth host of The Tonight Show. The network neglected to let Leno know this until his contract extension in 2004, when they informed him he would remain host for five more years and then transition the show to O’Brien in 2009. When that time arrived, other networks conveyed interest in Leno; NBC, in an effort to keep both of its late-night stars, offered Leno a nightly primetime show before the local news and O’Brien’s Tonight Show.

The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien and The Jay Leno Show failed to attract immediate viewers, and NBC affiliates, seeing their viewership decline, grew restless. NBCUniversal CEO Jeff Zucker, alongside chairman Jeff Gaspin and executive Rick Ludwin, created a remedy: move Leno back to his 11:35 pm start time and bump O’Brien a half-hour later, to 12:05 am. O’Brien and his staff were both disappointed and furious; when it became clear O’Brien would not agree to the proposed changes, the situation grew heated. Though not a breach of either host’s contract, the change resulted in a public outcry and public demonstrations largely in support of O’Brien.

Leno got bumped around by the network when he was at the top of the ratings. There was no excuse or reason for that but to try to force him out and at very least diminish his significance and impact.

It always fascinated me when Obummer would tell the media that the first he heard of "X" was when he saw it on the news, and not one "reporter" would respond with, "But you're the President! You should know!".

Imagine the media reaction if Trump tried that...
