She is getting ready for a job as a Dem politician.
God forbid the truth get out.
I’d hire her. She should be applauded for calling them out.
If her story about the intoxicated teacher is true, there needs to be serious investigation.
She ruffled more feathers than Jeanie C. Riley at the Harper Valley PTA!
For the sake of future students, it’s good that she rocked everybody’s boat. For her own sake, she may regret not being more diplomatic. Some of those ‘lousy teachers’ will try to get even with poor recommendations. It may not matter to a gal this poised, confident and articulate. She was not brought up to be fearful of authority. That’s often a plus in the longrun.
Good for her. She’ll be a CEO someday.
I think it’s great that she called out the useless deadwood employees that saturate the public schools. Students have enough to cope with, without lazy staff who are just there to get a paycheck and provide no value in exchange.
Memo to self...DO NOT HIRE. Needs to be coddled. Won't take responsibility for herself. Did not use unlimited available resources."
What a sense of self-entitlement. How absolutely pathetic. But, unfortunately, so typical these days.
“Manuel Rubio, a spokesman for the Sweetwater Union High School District, told the San Diego Union-Tribune that Buhrs speech deviated from the pre-approved version submitted before the graduation ceremony.”
Well, gosh darn.
Listening to the speech, did she say she needed help with work permits?
Hey, she is right. School workers are, in many cases, lame. They are paid well to help students. And some of them suck. Its ok for a student to point out that public employees with guaranteed jobs and pensions don’t always produce as well as their guaranteed jobs would suggest. This kid is not owed a perfect education. But the public employees are not owed a job or pension when they fail so badly.
Is it up to the school to look for scholarships?
Can’t she search on her own?
BooHooHoo snowflake.
welcome to the real world that works on eleventh hour deadlines. You should be grateful that they even informed you about the scholarships.
I graduated as valedictorian in 1967. I was backward in everything but academics. I was not even aware of available scholarships or that I needed to apply. My guidance counselor had made a move to have someone else from “the right side of the tracks” named in my place, based on the “quality” of my band class grades, but the school superintendent (actually the girl’s grandfather!) stood by me, and I kept the title. The counselor told me I could get a $1,000 scholarship to the local state community college, and that was it. I refused it and went on to the University of Kentucky, worked my way through school in 4 years, and graduated with a B.S. in Engineering. And I was married the entire 4th year. Also, I carried absolutely no student debt. So don’t blame this girl for being unaware.
>>Imagine if her college professors and prospective employers see this video.
“I’ve got one that can SEE!”
Here’s the YouTube video:

She’s young and may grow up to regret that speech.
IMHO, an employer may think she sounds like a complainer who expects others to do things for her.
(i.e. Why couldn’t she look up scholarships for herself?)
Cheers!
A school’s staff are generally inept losers.
Shhh, you are not supposed to publically mention that.
Online school would provide similar or better quality.
I hope this call out is a trend.
I understand & appreciate the arguments here in the girl’s favor (i.e., a well-deserved takedown of lousy, lazy public-employee/ teachers-union members, etc). But this still seems ill-mannered, insolent & immature. It kinda reminds me of thosw global-warming brats who ambushed Feinstein in her office a few months ago. I hate DiFi but I was rooting for her in that clip. A lot of bratty kids out there who have never been corrected & think the world revolves around their opinions
Ya think???
This ping list is for the other articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)
The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.
