Dumb question about Looney Tunes
Posted on 06/09/2019 3:32:17 PM PDT by MNDude
When I was a kid, I loved to wake up Saturday morning to watch The Bugs Bunny Roadrunner hour. I bought the Looney Tunes golden collection which should contain most of the episodes, and it is money well spent. Those episodes never get old.
But I was wondering, is there anyone here old enough to remember how they were originally broadcast back in the 40s and 50s? I doubt they had Saturday morning cartoon lineups back then. Did you have to go to the movie theaters to watch them or what?

Haha - Seriesly, man, listen to the music without watching the cartoon. Original Avant-Garde music. John Cage couldn’t have done as well.

During the dark days of WWII cartoons from Disney and no doubt from others studios were dedicated to supporting the war effort. Fundraising by Donald Duck showing huge warships and tanks rolling off assembly lines while Donald strutted with a flag to patriotic music, eg.

Likewise 1956. In Logan WV we had CBS and NBC out of Charleston. Dupont had gone out of business. A year or so later we got ABC and we thought we had gone to entertainment heaven.

drive in movies have disappeared.
We have one in operation 5 miles away. But, sadly, the property is said to be up for sale.

plus TV could do a 30 minute story instead of a cartoon short. Like Tom Terrific or Crusader Rabbit.

In addition to high property value overtaking these establishments, light pollution was a deterrent as well. NOTHING worse than the bright lights around the screen/lot which made the movie almost impossible to watch.

I remember seeing those cartoons as a kid in the '70s.
The black lady was always hitting "Thomas" over the head with her broom for chasing Jerry.
I'm sure they don't show those episodes any more.
