Is there some way to eradicate them, before they multiply?

We need to reciprocate with China and surreptitiously introduce non-native (to China) pests and agricultural diseases to China. Turn-about is fair play.

“But health experts are keenly aware that in Asia, and in Australia and New Zealand, where the tick is found as well, it is known to spread pathogens that can be lethal to humans and animals.”
How horrible.
They really need to work on something to kill them before they multiple and take over the country and kill us all.

Ticks are hellacious critters. That said, Ive always wondered why they havent been modified to deliver something positive (an antibody or some such thing). Their bite is pretty unobtrusive, and while its disgusting to see one of them attached to you, they’re fairly easy to remove. So why not use their saliva-borne injection capacities for something positive?
Just a thought. But personally I hate them, because I hike and I know theyre out there...waiting....

First, female longhorned ticks can reproduce without the aid of a male. A single female can lay thousands of eggs, which will hatch into more females.
The dream of feminists everywhere.

"But the tick proved to be tenacious. In October, it was found to have completely infested the paddock.
The infestation was so bad that the ticks began crawling on the pants of investigators soon after they were inside the paddock. The ticks numbered in the hundreds and had concentrated "mostly on the sheep's ears and face," according to a paper by Rutgers, the Hunterdon County Department of Health and Smithsonian Institution.
Investigators found that the critters, in all life stages, had swarmed both the sheep and its paddock. The sheep had never been outside the U.S., so how the tick got there is unknown. The sheep later died, most likely from an unrelated cause."
