How would FDR's D-Day Prayer Be Accepted Today?

On D-Day’s 75th anniversary, President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s D-Day prayer came quickly to mind. He went on national radio the evening of June 6, 1944, asking all Americans to join him in a prayer.

The commander-in-chief began with an eloquent summary of the D-Day mission, his familiar voice saying in part: “Our sons, pride of our nation, this day have set upon a mighty endeavor, a struggle to preserve our republic, our religion, and our civilization, and to set free a suffering humanity. Lead them straight and true, give strength to their arms.” He continued: “Some will never return. Embrace these, father, and receive them, Thy heroic servants, into thy kingdom.”

Roosevelt cautioned that the road would be “long and hard” and “success may not come with rushing speed.” He was confident, however, that “by thy grace, and by the righteousness of our cause, our sons will triumph.”

In rereading this, I wondered what would be the reaction to Roosevelt’s prayer today. I am saddened to suspect that Roosevelt, or any other president, would be accused by many in the progressive media of having injected the Judeo-Christian religion into the public square. I have little doubt, though, that most Americans would be moved by his prayer and pleased the president had delivered it.

It would never be delivered by a Democrat President today, because no Democrat would mention God, prayer, humanity, or ask Americans to pray to the Lord to preserve our republic, our religion or save civilization, especially if it meant protecting Catholics, Christians, or Jews.

Back then the enemy looked different, but the evil they practiced is no different than the liberal evil that threatens us today.

Seeing the surviving D-Day veterans at the ceremony reminded me of the 75th anniversary reunion at Gettysburg in 1938. I wasn't alive at the time but I have seen film of the reunion, with Union veterans and Confederate veterans shaking hands over a rubble stone wall where some of the fighting had taken place.

I was glad that there were no surviving German veterans there on Thursday--that would have sent the wrong signal.

Given today's climate, the 1938 event at Gettysburg would have excluded the Confederate veterans.

If FDR read it, they’d let it slide. He built concentration camps for American citizens based on their ethnicity, and the left let it slide. They have very different rules for fellow leftists.

They already have! AOC said that FDR new deal was basically racist because it catered to whites. FDR is revered among old school libs but this new-age strain of progressivism is further left than even a regular leftists once was

D-Day would never happen today. Americans don’t have the guts to takes losses and wage total war. We couldn’t even beat Iran today. Today the losses of D-Day would impeach any president. Imagine Trump Ordering a D-Day on Iran? Never happen.

A modern day Democrat would rewrite it to something like this: "Our homophobic children, disgrace of our nation, this day have set upon a mighty endeavor, a struggle to preserve white supremacy, their primitive religion, and to prolong the suffering of LGBTs everywhere. Some will never return. Embrace these Mother Earth, and receive them, these deplorable hicks into your ground."

I would not bet on what you said.

We are still in a war that was started in 01.

They just dont say it is a war.

But, why in the hell would we invade Iran without a serious provocation?

Do you think that if Iran were to bomb one of our military bases, like the Japanese did, that we would let it slide?
Lets say that Guam got hit? Would that suffice?

Of course, then there are the socialists within this country so you might be correct in regs’ to those scum.
