A substitute teacher working at an Iowa high school was taken off the sub list a few weeks after telling students that they had horrendous grammar during class.
S. Keyron McDermott opened up her piece in a local newspaper saying the high school terminated her last fall for telling students that their grammar skills were subpar by around 10 years.
Last Halloween, I dressed up like a teacher not exactly an alter ego; I have a certificate went to the local high school, and substituted in Family & Consumer Science, McDermott wrote in an op-ed for the Des Moines Register. There was a small ruction in third period; the principal and I discussed it amicably, and I barely gave it second thought.
I'm what?
Believing she had done absolutely nothing wrong or beyond her limits as a high school teacher, McDermott was shocked any disciplinary action over the incident was taken let alone a termination.

This ping list is for the other articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)
The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.
Common Core at its finest.
Thought Police Alert!
I remember a ruction in 6th grade gym class. I was soooo embarrassed.

Of course, people would get offended If someone called Gramma a Ho’
(Aunt Atrocia wouldn’t be pleased neither ;-)
OK, sorry, I haven’t read this, but....
Iowa?
They’re worried about this in Iowa?
I can only envision that if the sub was sick of the redneckish language, which yes, is about as bad as ebonics?
Is this where “ruckus” comes from? I thought I was using a legitimate word for commotion; now I wonder if it’s a dumbing-down of her word!
We learn something every day. Small, easy word, but still never heard it!
Installing your agenda in America is quite easy, just pack the education system with followers and dumb down its future voters or import adults willing to vote as you direct.
I nearly choked.
I was in some kind of art class that admitted students from freshman to senior. This freshman kid was strutting around the room saying, Im ruthless! Im ruthless! But it sounded like rootless. So, this senior girl leaned over and whispered to me, Thats because he doesnt know who his daddy is. First-degree burn!

Well done.
I'll be looking for more of your wisdom and smartass way.
Let me know if you're giving lessons.
“interactions between yourself and the students were not such as meet our expectations for substitutes.
BE A GOOD TARGET AND PUSH-OVER LIKE ANY PROPER SUBSTITUTE!
I read it now, and don’t have any better grip on exactly the demographic and such environment she actually worked in. So I guess I still stick with rednecks objecting?
I admire your diction.
They’s grammar was bad? Don’t you be telling me that!
Great song!!!!
It is like the teacher from many years ago who said the entirely legitimate word, niggard, in class.
The illiterate parasites accused her of racism, and she was terminated on account of their ignorance.
There are ways around that, e.g.:
There is nothing to fear.
What is even more scandalous, to me at least, that for all the alleged “conservatives” on this site, so few respond to these threads, and so many are willing to send their children to these pagan academies. Sending your child to public school is like casting a couple of votes for Hillary. I understand some have choice...but some do. WHAT ARE THEY THINKING????
