DUI arrest after six-car crash on 15 Freeway in Temecula kills Murrieta woman

The driver of a pickup moving fast in morning traffic on the 15 Freeway caused a six-vehicle, chain-reaction crash Tuesday that killed a Murrieta woman and sent another pickup off the roadway and into the side of the Temecula City Hall parking building, authorities said.

The pickup’s driver, identified as Javier Caldera, 25, of Auburn, Washington, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs, the California Highway Patrol said. He was not injured.

Caldera was arrested on suspicion of murder, gross vehicular manslaughter, hit-and-run resulting in property damage, driving under the influence and driving with a suspended or revoked license. He was booked into the Southwest Detention center with a bail of $1 million, and is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday morning.

The wreckage debris closed the southbound lanes of the freeway at Rancho California Road, as well as the road’s on-ramp, for four hours after the 7:25 a.m. crash and caused major traffic jams throughout the area.

A dashcam video posted on YouTube showed the crash, with the truck speeding by and rear-ending the first car in the chain with an impact that looked like an explosion. The comment, “That’s crazy….call 911, man” can be heard from inside the car with the video.

The CHP said early Tuesday that a 44-year-old Murrieta woman, the driver of a Nissan Altima that Caldera’s southbound truck hit first, died after the collision. The Riverside County Coroner’s Office later identified her as Janet Genao.

In the collisions that followed, a 2000 Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck flew off the freeway and struck the Temecula City Hall parking building. The driver, a 38-year-old man from Wildomar, was hospitalized with major injuries, the CHP said.

Two others, a 35-year-old man from Brandon, Mississippi driving a 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe and a 55-year-old man from Irvine in a 2017 Tesla Model S, both had minor injuries. A 50-year-old El Cajon man in a 2017 Toyota Camry escaped being hurt.

Did Zora Arkos-Duntov design that one, too? He did the Corvette...but I have no idea. And, yes, it’s beautiful, and I’m a Ford man... I’d drive it around town with a big grin!

According to posters on Youtube, this guy has done this before:

From about 6 months ago... Man Arrested, (Javier Caldera, 25), (on a felony eluding charge), in Centralia After Leading WSP on Pursuit

From Thurston County The Chronicle Nov 26, 2018

An Auburn man was arrested in Centralia on a felony eluding charge after allegedly leading authorities on a vehicle chase starting somewhere in Thurston County and ending on foot in Centralia.

A Washington State Patrol spokesperson didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment regarding what prompted the chase.

In Centralia, police were notified at around 2:30 a.m. Saturday of a pursuit heading southbound on Interstate 5. Officers deployed spike strips on the southbound Exit 82 ramp, in case the vehicle’s driver, later identified as Javier Caldera, 25, tried to head into Centralia — which is allegedly what happened, said Centralia Police Department Sgt. Dave Clary.

The vehicle drove over the strips, and blew at least one tire, said Clary, and ended up crashing into a nearby fence on Harrison Avenue. Caldera allegedly left the vehicle and ran away. Officers looked around the area for a couple hours without finding Caldera.

Clary said officers went to businesses in the area and described the suspect to staff members. One eventually spotted Caldera on foot in the area and contacted police. Officers responded and arrested him without further incident. He was turned over to WSP.

I have driven every work morning for the past 10 years on the 15. It has gotten so bad in the past 2 years. Folks are driving way to fast, weaving in and out of traffic, tail gating and exiting & entering the freeway on 3-5 lane jumps.

They will wreck into you and it is YOUR responsibility to avoid THEM (as they see it anyway).

Back in the 80-90’s the littlest runts i knew had the fastest jap superbikes to make their little wee wee’s bigger.
Now they just walk around with pit bulls and rottweilers.
If they can afford it, or somehow get a car loan like this d-bag apparently did they get themselves giant pickup trucks.

Looks like there was a wreck ahead of this. You see the red lights go on slowing down cars and then he speeds into that.

Apparently, “told investigators he was heading to Mexico”. Now why would he be going to Mexico in such a hurry? Curious minds wonder. And where did he get his second Chevy Silverado to wreck within just a few months, with a suspended license since 2013? Why did he only spend 2 months in jail after his felony conviction for evading and wrecking the first one?

This should be National News, yet another bastard who should be deported or in jail kills an innocent.
