He’s not from a distant generation. I’m 51.

Cant believe I have NEVER heard of him.

Brother is in his 60s and had large rock/funk collection that I loved.

Guess this was a unique artist.

Rest in peace Roky. Two of his former bandmates are friends of mine here in central Texas. I bought a 60’s Ludwig hi-hat stand from the drummer a few years ago to go with my vintage WFL kit.

Born in Austin, just like me! But growing up in Dallas had not heard of him, we listened to Willie, Jerry Jeff, Rusty Weir, lot of great music in the 70s - enjoy Roky

WOW! Someone who played an instrument, that few ever heard of died. I hope the world doesn’t stop turning. We’d best consult with the Freeper Rock Connoisseurs crowd to find just how hugh & series this might evolve.

67’ was a great year for people in the San Antonio area to see talented R&R musicians. The 13th Floor Elevators were doing constant gigs in the area. There was a concert with Jimi Hendrix opening for the Monkees. Even though we lived in Del Rio, SA was just a few hours drive to venues there. Roky and the Elevators were constantly on our turntables.

Saw them frequently in Austin mid 60’s. You Gonna Missed Me sounded a bit like Van Morrison’s Gloria. Which came first I don’t know.

Dang, I have gotten the old lady liking him. I told her we needed to go see him just the other day.

I love everything he has done. One of a kind. Very influential to me and a lot of other Texans.

RIP Roky.

Born in Dallas, Texas, Erickson was interested in music from his youth, playing piano from age five and taking up guitar at 10. He attended school in Austin and dropped out of Travis High School in 1965, one month before graduating, rather than cut his hair to conform to the school dress code.[3] His first notable group was the Spades, who scored a regional hit with Erickson’s “We Sell Soul”; the song is included as an unlisted bonus track on Erickson’s 1995 album All That May Do My Rhyme and was adapted as “Don’t Fall Down” by the 13th Floor Elevators for their debut album. The Spades’ original version of “You’re Gonna Miss Me”, later a hit for the 13th Floor Elevators, was featured on the compilation album The Best of Pebbles Volume 1.
