VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (Reuters) - The gunman who killed 12 people at a Virginia Beach municipal building before dying in a gun battle with police was identified on Saturday as a disgruntled city engineer and co-worker of most of the victims. All but one of the victims from the mass shooting in the coastal resort community were employed by the city, officials said at a news conference, while the other was a contractor seeking a permit. Four people were wounded.
The gunman, DeWayne Craddock, had worked for the city’s public utilities department for about 15 years, Virginia Beach Police Chief James Cervera said at a news conference.

The engineering he most likely did was turning some valves on steam radiators in city buildings and changing a light bulb from time to time.
There may have been a long-arm involved (thought I heard that on the news yesterday), but I guess it wasn’t an AR-15 type (or scary-looking photos would be splashed all over the news).
According to one account he graduated from Old Dominion with a degree in civil engineering. After that long he should have had his P.E. I wonder if not having that stopped any advancement. What little they did mention didn’t indicate design work which would have taken advantage of his education.

I know a “preferred minority” with a law degree that can’t pass the bar exam despite multiple attempts; works a gubmint job (admin assistant-type) and would be unemployable anywhere else.

I did for a little while, but I never killed or wanted to kill any of my coworkers. I liked them, although there were a few I wanted to give a Three Stooges Poke In The Eye every now and then.
