Three summers vacationing in Clearwater/St. Pete in the 70’s as a kid. How hot was it? The shuffleboard disks had geckos on them trying to catch some breeze. The insects took turns annoying us to save energy. Gators let us step on them like logs because of less effort.

The manatees were too slim to draw tourists and lost their contract. Most amazing - the gulf “Redneck Riviera” was so hot most vacationers stuck to the motel pools. That last was totally true.
