Roy Syvertson, 86, of South Hampton, said he went to close up his iPad and the animal was wedged between the back of the device and its cover. "It felt like a little bee sting, and it hurt," he said. The bat bit his finger before Syvertson managed to press the cover down to keep the bat from flying away.
"I looked and there was the bat looking out at me, and I could see his wings had the little hooks on them," Syverston said. "It must have been very squished in there."
Syverston said he only discovered the bat when he went to close the iPad case. He had been watching the news on it for an hour. "I kept squeezing it so he wouldn't come out, because, as you see, we got a high ceiling in here," he said.
Syvertson said he got the bat outside but then later found it dead so he called the New Hampshire Department of Fish and Game for fear the animal might have rabies. Police said the bat tested positive for rabies so Syvertson went to an area hospital for treatment.

Eeek!
He should never have let the bat go. He’s lucky he found it again.
An 86 year old undergoing rabies treatment. Ouch.
The modern vaccines aren’t as bad as the previous treatments were.
“Man Bitten by Rabid Bat Hiding in iPad Case”
I hate when that happens ...
Did the bat take a selfie?
On a brighter note, an 86 year old man with an iPad! Gotta love that! Good luck, sir, with your shots
I had a bat get into my garage, and it made its way into a bunch of laundry hanging in the next room. As I was moving through them, it came face to face with the little bastard. The first thing I could lay my hands on was a tennis racquet. I dont think he knew what hit him as he sailed across the room. And then he sailed out of the garage.
I hate bats.
They stay on their side of my house and we will have peace. Inside my castle, I will kill them.
How did the man get into an iPod case?
I know someone who has taken care of bats used in a research study. They actually became quite fond of the little guys.
My brother once found one in his house, managed to smack it senseless into the kitchen sink, and turned on the garbage disposal.
I thought that was a little excessive...
Huge markups by the hospitals.
I can see that. People keep their little sugar- flying squirrels. Make that sugar-gliders.
Those little guys used to be very hard to keep. I think you can buy processed diets for them now (?)
Well, I guess that’s the case with everything now. But I’ll pay for treatment, rather than face the almost certain fatal alternative.
Sounds totally logical to me.
:)
I guess it saved his floors and walls...
I looked and there was the bat looking out at me, and I could see his wings had the little hooks on them.
Journalism is not dead. This was a great description of the account.
Reminds me of the bat scene in Tommy Boy.
