A female concession employee was injured by a cow elk in the Mammoth Hot Springs developed area at about 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, according to a Yellowstone National Park spokeswoman.
The employee was transported to the hospital via ambulance but additional details about the extent of her injuries have not been released.
Park biologists and rangers hazed the elk to get the animal to leave the area, which is home to the park headquarters, the Mammoth Hotel and the Albright Visitor Center.
Two women were injured by cow elk protecting their newborn calves last spring. Elk are attracted to the Mammoth area for food and protection from predators. While eating, the mothers will hide their calves near buildings or in the sagebrush. If people approach the calf, the mother elk may act in an aggressive manner to protect its calf.
Elk are in the height of their calving season, which can start in mid-May and extend into late June.

GET OFF MY BACK!!!
ROFLMAOPIMP !!! As gross and disgusting as that is it's a classic and would make a great T-Shirt !!!
In early June 2014, while on a trip to America, I stepped out of our motel room in Gardiner, MT (the north portal to Yellowstone) with my three year old grandson to go for a walk. We went to the end of the motel porch to look at the mountain behind the motel, and I saw an elk calf reclining against the building. In no time at all, Mum came charging around the corner and came straight at us. I was not familiar with the habits of such critters, and did not realise the danger we were in.
The cow reared up and tried to kick my head, and I had luckily just bent down to pick up my boy. We ran off to our room, but the cow followed us and we just did get the door open and got inside. I was pissed annoyed at what she had done, and in ignorance stepped out to chase her away. She came at me again but tripped on the porch step. I still to this day do not know how I did it (she was taller than I, and I was 69 years old), but I managed to give her a swift kick right on her chin, then hightailed it back inside. I am certain that it didn’t bother her much, but she would not leave our doorstep. She kept us holed up for nearly three hours, then the motel manager called some police or Rangers of some sort to run her off, and they explained to me my transgression in getting between her and her calf. They are certainly frightening and obstinate beasts.
I was in northern NH very close the border fishing in the early morning all by myself. I am standing at the edge of this pond. My pickup truck is parked about 100 feet behind me on this logging road. I hear them coming before I see them. A yearling moose and its mom coming right down this stream/ditch directly behind me between me and my truck. I just froze. I was thinking, if I move, I am running into the pond. They continued to walk right behind me about 40 feet and down the road they went. I never moved. Boy was my heart pounding.
Yeah, but the Elk and the Moose both hold great shotgun raffles!
