Young American flyers arrive in war and discover that the bureaucracy is more deadly than the enemy.
6 part miniseries
It's surprisingly good. If you don't have Hulu, you can sign up for the free trial, watch the series, then cancel before they charge you.
I actually liked the film that was made of it back in 1970.
I didn’t like the movie much. I thought it was just too clever by half, and I’m not watching anything with Anal Clooney.
I just watched the original again this weekend. Didn’t know that they tried to remake it.
Should be interesting...
Been watching it, and enjoying it. Saw the movie many years ago. I had to read the book in college for an English class I took. The instructor was into history and war, and we had to read several books during the course, among them “The Red Badge of Courage”, “All Quiet on the Western Front”, Philip Caputo’s “A Rumor or War.” It was one of the best classes I ever took. I’d been a Civil War buff for several years prior to taking the course. I didn’t know ahead of time what the class would focus on, so it was a pleasant surprise when the instructor gave us the synopsis of the course. It was a night course as I worked all day, and the community college I was attending had just started allowing the day students to attend night classes, which was a bummer. After telling us what the class was going to focus on, he told those that weren’t interested to leave, and all the young kids got up and walked out. That was fine with me, because the only ones left were us older folks, and it made the classroom experience that much more enjoyable.
P.S. The music in the series is great. I’m a Big Bands fan!
Watch it. You might be just as surprised as I was.
George said with the miniseries, they were able to further develop the characters.
My favorite book of all time. I first read it in the ‘60s which was the best time for its dark humor.
I saw the original movie, and I’m watching this series. It’s hard to recognize Yossarian when you expect Alan Arkin. Same with Major Major Major Major with Bob Newhart, and ditto with Milo Minderbinder with Jon Voigt. These new guys all look alike.
The book did such a great job on character development that no movie or series can impart.
IIRC, Art Garfunkel was in the movie and Paul Simon wrote a song about him (aka “Tom”) during that period, “The Only Living Boy in New York”.

Was that You? LOL
The English prof left it up to the class to decide
what book we were going to study. Being a rabid
fan of Catch-22, I convinced the class to select it.
I like to think I provided Heller with thirty more
readers that would have missed him otherwise.
The wife and I went to the premiere red carpet roll out of Catch-22 in Atlanta. The movie was so faithful to dialogue in the book that I irritated my wife by mouthing actors’ lines as they spoke them.
I thought it was just too clever by half
I wonder if they’ll get around to Hungry Joe’s
hobby of snapping on the light in his tent so
he could look rats right in the eyes just
before shooting them with a .45.
ROFL!! Your wife must be a Saint! Once I finish watching the series, I’m going to have to watch the movie again.
The kid who plays Yossarian reminds me of Kit Harrington (Jon Snow), from "Game of Thrones"...just with shorter hair.
Ive only seen the first episode so far. I thought it was pretty good. I thought Clooney was weak, however. Not because hes a liberal jerk, but just because his performance seemed like it belongs in a different movie.
It’s hard to imagine a better Yossarian than Arkin.
He was basically a trapped rabbit and had an anguished,
desperate, fearful look on his face the whole movie.
Nothing worked, not even getting his gums painted purple.
He understood the advice of Nately’s
whore’s grand father, that it is better
to live on your knees than to die on your feet.
I don't know, but I think that might be the point.
I know a Dr. Major, works at the local Urgent Care. I told him if he joined the Army, he could be Major Major.
Most of it is accurate for the period, some is not, but it sounds good.
