President Donald Trump and his family are heading to the U.K. next week for his first state visit after multiple delays, again putting a spotlight on the matter of royal protocol what is and is not acceptable when he meets Queen Elizabeth.
Last summer, during a working visit to the U.K., Trump made headlines when he shook hands with the 92-year-old monarch instead of bowing. While the move was criticized by some online, it was not against the rules (such as they are).

How long before someone posts the picture of Zero bowing to the waist before the King of Saudi Arabia?
Definitely one of the sorriest sights in American history.

A mere monarch should bow in the presence of an elected American president. She is owed no more deference than any other elderly woman.

“... I would bend the knee...”
Never.
From Lexington-Concord to Yorktown, thousands of American Patriots roll over in their graves at the thought of “bending the knee” to an English monarch.
She may be a nice, sweet old broad, but neither a bow nor a bended knee will she EVER get from me.

Still have a bit of nostalgia for the old England, even though it’s mostly gone. OTOH, given the history of the last 100 years or so, if one of those two leaders were to bow to the other, I would think it would be the queen obligated to bow to the POTUS and not the other way ‘round.

I wouldn’t bend the knee. I’m an American.
But it always amuses me to see these threads, and the hatred some seem to have for the Brits and their monarchy.
We pay homage to them, their history, culture and ideas every day through our own laws and ideals. We didn’t exactly spring fully formed from the brows of the Founders.

I love that scene in the John Adams mini-series where he meets King George. They had instructed him on the proper protocol of bowing to the king. He's having none of it. BUT, gritting his teeth, he does the bare minimum to get by. Just his body language says that he is doing it out of protocol not out of honor. Great scene.

US President should never bow to a royal Nor should any other Citizen of these United States. She's a nice lady, I'm sure, but she's not my queen.

I don’t think the narcissist has any sort of fealty to anyone or anything. The bowing is just a way of showing the superiority of his exquisite cultural awareness.

Despite what Obama did when meeting royals, the US President should never bow to a royal. First they are both heads of state therefore of equal rank. Second as a US citizen we are not subjects of Her Majesty.
I thought we solved the whole bowing to the king/queen of England back in 1776?
