The 35-year-old physical therapist, who had a whole day to herself, figured she's go for a 3-mile hike and spend a couple hours in the woods.
"I don't really know what happened," she said Tuesday morning, speaking to reporters while in a wheelchair. "All I can say is that ... I have strong sense of internal guidance, whatever you want to call that -- a voice, Spirit, everybody has a different name for it.
"My heart was telling me walk down this path, go left. Great. Go right. It was so strong."
She said it turned out to be not nearly as strong when after meditating on a log she wanted to go back to her car.
She tried one path and it didn't get her back to her car. She tried another. No luck. And another.
She came to the realization she wasn't on a human path; she was on a boar path.
"At that point I had no choice because everything looked the same I said the only thing I have is my gut. I don't have a compass. I don't have a cell phone," she said. "So, Spirit, or whatever you want to pray to, I said I need your help right now."
She said she listened to her sense of guidance, which instead of taking her back to her car, took her on a 5-mile journey, one she called a "spiritual boot camp."

The runnaway bride! Boy, there were some of the funniest Freeper jokes on those columns.
I’m still laughing at some of them.
Used to go hiking in the mountains in North Carolina. (Love that state!!!) Always took a compass just in case.
Did in the same thing when I went to downtown New York! (Hated getting off the subway and not knowing which direction was what until I walked a block.)
Is that anything like Hillary hearing Eleanor Roosevelt?
If you are going to get lost in the woods for 17 days, you could do a lot worse than Hawaii.
My apologizes to all Freepers whom I lectured on the dangers of the Maui landscape.
However the fact remains that the terrain is treacherous. The area where the newest lost hiker is is even worse. Think Empire State bldg. cliffs
15 minutes is up
..
If you build it they will come.
What! What is it you want me to build!
A shaved ice stand.
Shes a strange one. Not sure how much I believe her either.
What a pathetic nutjob. I don’t believe anything this oaf says 17 days? Yeah . ..sure.
Probably went to Burning Man and never really made it back.
Probably hiding at a local resort under another name, hoping to write a book on the spiritual voices she heard that guided her for seventeen days. Watch for it.
Color me silly, but I keep thinking this is all staged fake news....
The mennehinee are known tricksters and were likely guiding her down the wrong path.
Lotta yoga teachers in the world. Sure is nice that now she gets to be famous.... just sayin’
Follow the money
Hmmm... Menehune. I worked in a resort on Maui, and there were many menehune stories people would tell. Some were people who weren’t locals and had never heard of the (mythical) creatures.
“The Hawaiian Mts are very treacherous, but I dont believe a word of her ****”
At first I figured she went on a romantic getaway with a secret lover, and this is the story she came up with.
Twice in the last week I heard a voice calling my name. Sounded like my mom. I checked on her, as I do every few hours she was sleeping. I m overworked and not well, and prone to seizures, among other things. Felt like she was whispering in my ear, when I was all alone, washing dishes.
Creepiest thing.
