How Sad. One of the great QB’s. I will never forget his “Sneak” in the Ice Bowl. God Bless Him.
Played when as the Maranis book on Lombardi is titled “When Pride Still Mattered”!
RIP Mr Starr
Those were football players!
RIP
RIP to a great legend.
He did not have such an outstanding record at the University of Alabama so it is unusual that he was considered by the pros. But he was a phenomenal pro quarterback and a classy guy.
[But he was a phenomenal pro quarterback and a classy guy.]
And had a perfect name for football.
RIP
RIP and Roll Tide Roll!
RIP. I first heard about Bart Starr reading some old Junior Scholastic book about him by John Devaney that was in my fourth-grade school-room - I can still remember the cover of that book. I never got to see Starr play, but I knew since the fourth grade that he led those mighty Packers teams under Vince Lombardi and was the MVP of the first two Super Bowls.
I read recently that Starr still has the highest QB rating in post season play.
A Sunday School teacher too.
“A truly great man - RIP.”
Yep! ‘Bart Starr to Carroll Dale...’
May Bart Starr rest eternally in the sheltering arms of THE ETERNAL SAVIOR.
Yours, Darla & TMN78247
Frozen fields and fiery men. The NFL of the 1960s was a lot of fun and Starr was unforgettable. RIP, Bart Starr.
Also Starr to Boyd Dowler.
Starr was MVP of the first two Super Bowls. I no longer watch the NFL but those were great days.
85 years is a good run for any man, let alone a former pro ball player. That could mean he did things in moderation.
Disputing that theory is easy; just look at Joe Namath.
After all the excesses and indulgences, Joe will have his 75th birthday this friday on May 31st. So genetic also plays a role in aging. Joe just lucked out.
“I will never forget his Sneak in the Ice Bowl”
Grew up in Dallas, I was 9 and it is one of my early childhood memories watching that game. Bart Starr, what a great man.
PRAYERS to his family...
You know you are getting old when your childhood sports heros are passing away...
That sneak was something...that was a game of the ages... Nowadays, the NFL would cancel it...for being too cold...
