I think it’s pervasive in ALL age brackets. No one can THINK AHEAD to the NEXT STEP, never mind a LOGICAL CONCLUSION. Because the parents, teachers, etc. have this problem, it is something that should be learned by those that are responsible role models. But they don’t have it to teach.
I have watched a few Judge Judy shows lately (I know, Im probably the last person to tune in lol)

Whenever I chat up Neanderthal chicks,
my Cro-Magnon gonads keep stalling.
It’s not a bad lick how her brow is too thick,
but that New Jersey accent’s appalling.
Its got what plants crave.
Everybody is built differently with different traits - good and bad. Unfortunately, these days, companies promote the entertainers and creative speakers over the really gifted people who can be blunt with colleagues.
Used to the later, then started morphing into the former. Amazing what that does to your paycheck.
No. More low IQ people are being born.
Regardless, the Manhattan project/Moon shot of our generation is genetic engineering and applied gene therapies. While cosmetic enhancements may be the largest market (skin/hair/eye color, texture, etc), state run programs to improve IQ similar to polio vaccines may come into favor.
We are so very close to finally unraveling exactly how the brain stores, processes, analyses and communicates information. And it's all so simple really; just a bunch of neuro-transmitters utilizing electro-chemical signal pulses.
And, if one thinks about it in the abstract, it's highly unfair that some are born smart (ie more connectors & storage + faster processing) while most are sub-optimal. And whose fault is that? Not the beneficiary - no one gets to choose their parents, pro or con.
So, when science finally makes the technical breakthrough in (a) identifying the core components, and (b) determining how to grow new tissue & connectors, the race is going to be launched attempting to improve IQ across the spectrum. While the payoff(s) in the upper 3rd deviation (135+) will propel cutting edge discoveries, the real key will be one std deviation improvements from 90-95 to 105-110. This will be the death knell to liberal policies, because all of a sudden even common people will be gifted with rationality, have the ability to analyze facts, and be able to exercise impulse control.
I am, and have been told I am, ‘brutally honest,’ another way of saying blunt. But bluntness isn’t a drawback if words are properly chosen. I was told by an employee that I could tell someone to go to hell, and they’d look forward to the trip.
Be honest, look people dead in the eye, and if you must, use passive aggression. I had one employee who did something deliberately and rather than jump all over her for it, I said, “I know you wouldn’t do something like that.”
Next day, she told me that was a powerful tool. She used it on a misbehaving daughter and brought the kid to tears. LOL
Our ancestors had to think through and memorize literally everything. The technological marvels you speak to are the result of generations and multitudes of collective thinking. Hive mind?
No thanks.
The IQ of NBC propagandists falls somewhere between an ape and a bag of hammers.
I was flipping through the channels last week and happened to run up on a grandma trying to explain to a full grown woman that her daddy’s (Bob) father was her grandfather. The woman, one of the Kardashians, never did understand.
I was always under the impression that conservatism honored personal initiative, private property and laws that protected against force and fraud. The result has been an ever increasing dynamic of innovation and scientific breakthroughs driven by free market principles.
There is no stopping the advances being made in the scientific application of genetic science. Whether it is combating disease, repairing injuries, improving agricultural production or even creating virtual reality, mankind is moving ever closer to freeing himself from his biological tether.
But why hold an opinion, good or bad? As long as acquisition/implementation of technology is free from coercion, everyone can makes choices for themselves. So, consider the rush of demand to re-grow hair, to improve eyesight, to jump start testosterone production, to change skin/eye/hair color, etc. Why would any of those be "bad"?
And once some simple, elementary processes are standardized by which IQ levels can be raised, who will voice opposition? Or, perhaps more importantly, why?
Heading? We are already there! Greatest Orwellian movie ever made. Mike Judge is a genius!
LOL!
We were out driving one morning and something caught my son’s eye and he said, “Look! It’s an Obstacle Delusion!”
(Instead of ‘Optical Illusion.’)
OMG! I’ll never forget that! When he was a Toddler he called, ‘The Green Bay Packers’ his, ‘Brown Graham Crackers.’
That kid was endlessly amusing. ;)
Immigration from poorer/less intelligent parts of the world.
Scaring responsible, intelligent and mostly college educated people into not having children, ideally one or at most two. And the high school dropout has three or more.
All this vegan/vegetarianism nonsense is causing de-evolution. Everybody knows protein is brain food, so guess what happens when your diet is deficient in it?

You bring up biohacking, gene therapy and so on. Agreed, that may be a fruitful area for improving IQ. I’m concerned about unintended consequences, as with all genetic manipulation. That is truly playing with fire, IMO, although the cat is just about out of sight of the bag.
The other main path to IQ enhancement is the integration of electronics with the nervous system, as with Musk’s planned machine/mind interface. Even just a perfect memory with instant recall would essentially be a vast improvement in IQ. We already have that with current computer technology.
The potential combination of the two is daunting to contemplate...
