First we have some kids putting together a science experiment
Is it just me, or do a couple of these kids look a bit out of it? Ill cut to chase: the white kids look stoned.
This little hippy girl is demonstrating an experiment; no problem with this. But look
Oh dear God. I get it; shes just siphoning, but you have to admit, at first glance this looks a tad startling. I picture this photo shoot with Blue Öyster Cult playing in the background; the aroma of skunk weed everywhere.
A demonstration of magnetism. What you dont know is that all those items came from that kids afro.
You might think this is from the chapter on the heart, and taking your pulse. Its actually from a section on killing your classmates. Im sorry to report this young boy is no longer with us.
You cant deny this is a cool pic. What do you guess is on the turntable? Ill wager its either Steve Miller or Deep Purple.
That is the most psychedelic, migraine-inducing tablecloth I have ever seen.
Learning to take measurements. This would probably be deemed inappropriate in todays textbooks.
This boys attire words just cant express my horror. Theres a reason seventies clothing has become synonymous with bad taste.
This lad is deriving altogether too much joy from holding two magnets together. Im going to posit the theory that the second hand smoke on this photo shoot began to impact the children.
Im not sure what the dynamic is here: the black boy is innocently enjoying some tunes (The Isley Brothers perhaps?) while the white kid looks on with utter contempt.
So, lets have a look at the instructor. What sort of teacher is working with these kids? Surely hes of sound mind, and not a hopeless stoner as these illustrations may suggest .
Oh, dear. This man is clearly wasted.
The sad thing is that this isnt a particularly unusual textbook for the times. In the 1970s, for whatever reason, plastering each and every classroom text with photographs like these was the thing to do. Im not sure how effective it was in illustrating the concepts, but it sure makes for a fun read forty years later.
People were a lot larger in the 70s.
LOL!
I was in school in 1977, and that pretty much captures it. The place was a virtual Cheech and Chong movie. Thanks for posting!
Get a life.
School in the 70s wasn’t even that interesting.
You’re going to have to pay for my funeral b/c I’m dead.
No problem, they had pills to make you smaller.
White Rabbit Lyrics
[Verse 1]
One pill makes you larger
And one pill makes you small
And the ones that mother gives you
Don’t do anything at all
Go ask Alice
When she’s ten feet tall
In SC schools then.
Not much AC in the summer and little heat in winter.
Jeff Daniels, Barack Obama, and Chelsea Clinton in that one pic
These pics are so cool! Wish you could scan and post the whole book.
I graduated High School in the late 70’s. I had a pair of those plaid pants like the kid at the piano... Oh the shame.
What’s wrong? This is a chat thread. Find something serious if you don’t want to have fun. I enjoyed it.
I lived the 1970s. I bet the snarky, not very intelligent twat who wrote this did not.
