Middle school invites drag queens to encourage students to be themselves

In middle school, it's hard to be different. It's even harder if a student identifies as LGBTQ.

This week, a couple of teachers at Central Park School for Children in Durham, North Carolina, decided to enlist the help of some local drag queens to celebrate the unique differences between the school's students.

Taylor Schmidt, an eighth-grade teacher at the school, and his colleague, Schara Brooks, saw the impact bullying and other negative behavior was having on students in their school who identify as LGBTQ. They said students were even leaving the school because of some of their experiences. In December, the pair pitched a schoolwide event to help students understand what it means to be different.

"Our drive was to remove barriers to success, belonging and the ability to thrive for all students," Schmidt said. "It called for a hard look at the roots of these behaviors and intentional actions to liberate not just the bullied from oppressive acts, but the bully from the oppressive root causes of their actions."

Here's more details on the sexual predators behind this, along with a description of the school's attempt to conceal plans for the event from parents: "The email sent to Central Park School for Children staff also came with an 'explainer' document that staff was urged to read. The staff was told to hold on to the document until the event was “rolled out” to the community. . .The email was written by Taylor W. Schmidt, who lists his title as 'MS Social & Community Studies.' According to his school bio, Taylor Schmidt is originally from Kansas and went to Kansas State University where he received a BA degree in Biological and Cultural Anthropology.": Durham Charter To Hold Pride and Liberation Event Featuring Drag Queen Story Hour. One of Schmidt's partners in crime is registered Democrat Schara Brooks, who appears to have a criminal record, based on a quick public documents search which does not specify the charges.

I bet that the principal of this school would insist upon expelling a student "caught" wearing a pro-Trump, pro-2A, or pro-Christian t-shirt - on the ground that it "disrupted the learning environment" or because "other pupils felt threatened / offended" - but he invites sexual deviates to parade around openly on the school grounds.
