Our 'Greeneyes' has gone missing, so I have been asked to keep the Weekly Garden Thread rolling until she returns. If anyone knows her in Real Life, please post here and let us know what her situation is!
That said, I will be posting once a week, and I will TRY to stick to her schedule of a Friday Night/Saturday Morning Weekly Post, but it depends upon what is going on here at MY farm. (It's Spring; it's BUSY!)
The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you.
This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks. No matter what, you wont be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isnt asked.
It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. Planting, Harvest to Table Recipes, Preserving, Good Living - there is no telling where it will go and... that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!
NOTE: This is a once a week ping list. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest to Gardeners are welcomed any time!
According to this piece of research, bumblebees are the best blueberry pollinators, followed by mason and other bees, then european honey bees. We use the Honeybees because its cheaper and we can control them.
Thanks for posting. I took a look and will read later. I’ve seen slo mo footage of mason bees pollinating. They land like a belly flop and get the pollen all over their undersides. I would like to try some someday.
I am attempting to grow Brussell Sprouts from seed for the first time. They are sprouting rather vigorously, but according to the seed package harvest is in 90 to 200 days and I have no idea when it is appropriate to harvest.
I assume the longer I wait the larger the individual sprouts will be, don’t I honestly don’t know.
Any and all advice would be welcome, thank you in advance.
Ours is not the reason why, but rather to put our heads down and shake them sternly. ;)
Are you in Texas? If so, you may need to plant those in the ‘winter’ versus now. They like to get started when the weather is cool.
I’ve actually harvested them in March in Wisconsin - after they spent the winter under a thick cover of snow. What a treat!
Pick when they are the size of the ones you see frozen or fresh in the grocery - about a quarter-coin size across.
No, I am in SW Virginia Ag zone 6b according to the charts. Thank you for the information, it is very helpful.
Please put me on the ping list. This thread is one of the few times I get to see what my good friend tubebender is up to out in Norcal colluding in...
You’re in! :)
