The beloved actor is best known for characters like the Oldest Man and Mr. Tudball
Tim Conway has died at the age of 85.
He passed away at 8:45 a.m. in the Los Angeles area on Tuesday, his rep Howard Bragman confirms to PEOPLE.
Prior to his death, he suffered complications from Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH) and had no signs of dementia or Alzheimers.
Conway is survived by his wife of 35 years, his stepdaughter, his six biological children and two granddaughters. In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family would like donations to be made to The Lou Ruvo Brain Center at the Cleveland Clinic in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The beloved actor is best known for his work on The Carol Burnett Show, winning viewers over with characters like the Oldest Man and Mr. Tudball, whose accent he has said was inspired by his Romanian mother. He was known to ad-lib his sketches even surprising his scene partners and won a Golden Globe Award for the series in 1976, along with Emmys in 1973, 1977 and 1978.
At a 2013 event promoting his memoir, Whats So Funny? My Hilarious Life, Burnett, now 86, painted her collaborator as an on-set prankster.
Tims goal in life was to destroy [costar] Harvey Korman, she told the crowd, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Harvey wet his pants, Conway bragged.
Its an anecdote he also recalled in a 2013 interview with the Los Angeles Times.
Harvey never saw what I was going to do until he was actually doing the sketch, he said. As a matter of fact in the dentist sketch you can actually see Harvey wet his pants from laughing.

RIP, TIM!
One of my all time favorite comedian actors. He was such a prankster and so honed at his craft that he could make just about any other actor/comedian laugh on cue! He was an amazing force of comedy!
I pray that the memories of my childhood with him, Harvey and Carol will never fade from my mind!
And Jim Fowler last week.
...
I didn’t know. Jim Fowler was on the ground with the dangerous animals while Marlin was in the helicopter drinking martinis.
Wow! “Dorf on Golf”. Someone gave that VHS tape to me for Christmas decades ago.
I read Bob Newhart was helping him.
RIP Mr. Conway, you were one of the great ones.
I still remember busting a gut the night they aired the skit where Tim and Harvey Korman were Gestapo officers interrogating Lyle Waggoner.
Sad....seems like a lot of loved entertainers are going away very near each other.
one of the funniest skits i ever saw was this one:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3qqE_WmagjY
People literally fell on the floor laughing-
I can still remember one of the shows, he was doing the old man and his wife (I think, something like that routine) and got on an aircraft luggage conveyor belt like he was skiing and flopped off at the end, saying “Agony of da-feet”.
Li’l me was very amused.
Sad to see him go, but 80+ years is a good run. Hopefully he’s spreading laughter in a better place now.
Those Carol Burnett skits with Harvey Corman were so funny I had tears in my eyes. Especially I remember one where one of them was being court-martialed and the other had to strip him of his medals and ribbons. Harvey could barely keep it together, it was so funny.
I laughed more at Harvy’s reaction to Tim’s jokes and ad libs
That is what this article has written (no signs of dementia).
Over the last two years, there have been numerous reports and related speculation that Tim was suffering from dementia.
That’s one reason his daughter Kelly was fighting for conservatorship over his medical and housing decisions.
Tim was described as being unable to speak or swallow and with signs of dementia.
Instead, his wife, her stepmom was recently awarded the title of conservator on March 22, 2019. Casey Casem went through something similar with his wife and his family years ago.
bob newhart and time are legends- absolute legends in comedy- loved the bob newhart show- folks like this are shining stars, and the world becomes a little dimmer when they pass- but my how it lights up when they are with us
Lena Horne died 10 years ago, but for whatever reason, and in spite of the date on the article, people began circulating it on social media over the weekend and eventually it made its way here.
I remember when Harvy won an Emmy for his performance on Carol’s show. Tim followed him onto the stage and stood behind him during the entire acceptance speech staring up at him.
Anyone remember Tim Conway and Ruth Buzzie in Crazy Comedy Concert?
Loved that.

Thjat’s because the ‘golden age’ is over- now we have the ‘angry filthy age’- The old comedians and entertainers weren’t always totally clean (but at least we could for the most part watch them in mixed company, and with the kids, and not have to be bombarded with constant filth- the ‘off color’ jokes by some of the more ‘edgy entertainers’ back then were pretty tame by today’s standards), but they were at least respectful of others- even when they disagreed politically- today everyone is just so angry and vulgar- they turn more people off than they attract- Comedy and entertainment started really taking a nosedive in the 90’s with the rise of the nasty vulgar angry comediennes-
Those in the ‘golden age’ of entertainment are all around the same ages- and it’s a time period that very sadly is coming to an end- It was an era that was extremely funny, respectful for the most part- and just a blast to live in- Now we have disgusting vile people like rosie odonnel, kathy griffith, bill maher bill nye- robert deniro- etc etc etc - what a disgrace to the entertainment industy[-
Hi.
Lena Horne died in 2010.
The thread you read was an archive.
