President Donald Trump has requested to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in late June on the sidelines of the G20 meeting in Japan, according to media reports from Russia. Russian media reported that multiple Russian Foreign Ministry sources claimed Washington had reached out to Moscow to set up a meeting at the summit, which will be held on June 28 and 29 in Osaka. “We have always said that the presence of leaders at an event of the appropriate level would open such an opportunity,” Sergei Ryabkov, Russia’s deputy foreign minister, was quoted as saying in numerous reports. The reports were released one day before Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s visit on Tuesday to Sochi, Russia, to speak with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov about a variety of issues. Some reports claimed Pompeo would push the issue of a potential Trump-Putin meeting at this time.

The media has colluded to suggest that Trump is selling out the nation’s interests every time he meets a foreign leader. The thing with Trump, though, is that these meetings don’t mean they’re buddy-buddy. He met with Xi earlier and the net result as of last Friday has been new 25% tariffs on $200b of Chinese imports. He has met privately numerous times with Putin but the anti-Russian actions just keep piling up.
Trump has said nice things about the leaders of the nation’s nuclear-armed adversaries while sticking the shiv in. That’s how he rolls. Whereas Obama’s strategy was to talk tough while doing nothing to address their transgressions. On Russia, Trump has authorized the destruction of a Russian mercenary unit in Syria involving over 200 dead Russians, supplied lethal aid to Ukraine, pulled out of nuclear arms treaties with Russia, increased defense expenditures targeted at the Russians (including nuclear weapons upgrades) *and* increased sanctions on Russia, none of which Obama would do, despite all of his tough talk. With people like Obama, words are a substitute for deeds. With Trump, words are a salve for the knife he is slipping between their ribs.

Russia’s Muslim population is 12% of the total vs 0.6% of ours. Putin is also importing large numbers of Muslims from the Central Asian countries that used to be part of the Russian empire. Maybe they’ll all convert to Russian Orthodoxy.

Post-Soviet Russia has no issues with political assassinations conducted against dissidents. So why is Russia becoming a font of Islamist warriors for ISIS? Why aren’t these people being killed before they get the chance to acquire training and contacts fighting in foreign lands?

Trump may have wanted to float a deal with Putin to have Russia pull support for Maduro in exchange for keeping its investments there. Of course, the Deep State/Bolton/Pompeo gang want no such deals.
