Former FBI director James Comey said Thursday that he thinks President Trump likely has committed crimes that could be cause for indictment once he leaves office and, were he not president, likely would already have been indicted.
In a CNN town-hall-style meeting, Mr. Comey was asked by host Anderson Cooper whether Mr. Trump acted with corrupt intent to interfere with an ongoing investigation.
It sure looks that way, Mr. Comey replied, saying he based that judgment on his reading of special counsel Robert Muellers report and leaning most heavily on Mr. Trumps order to White House Counsel Don McGahn to fire Mr. Mueller.
When Mr. Cooper asked the former FBI chief whether he agreed with an open letter from numerous federal prosecutors that Mr. Trump would already have been indicted on obstruction of justice charges if were not the president, Mr. Comey was emphatic.
Yes. agree. No doubt, he told Mr. Cooper.
It has been longstanding Justice Department policy that a sitting president cannot be indicted.
Attorney General William Barr has said, though, that Mr. Muellers decision not to charge Mr. Trump was not based on that policy alone.
When a president could be indicted poses an awkward question, Mr. Comey said.
He said Mr. Mueller, in writing his report, seemed to be balancing Justice Department policy with building a factual record that could be used in other circumstances, such as Congresss power to impeach a president.

Comey thought he’d blackmail the President, but now he’s ducking the boomerang.
Is it?
I don’t believe that they will be.
This is part of a much more extensive thought...

In reality, the worst case is that ultimately Trump fails
and we are forced to finally take care of the matter
ourselves.. However, it is foolish to attempt anything now
while at least our apparent ally holds the seat of power in
the country. Vigilance yes. Violence, No. Not just yet.

Is not the same as...
its becoming obvious
I think that he is using this so that if charges are filed on him, then he can accuse our side of obstruction (or whatever they are going to use next).
This piece of sh!t needs to be shut up.
unless all those responsible for the attempted coup are imprisoned.
what charges?
SEDITION and TREASON
passing, or making available, highly classified data onto ‘aggressive’ states is also illegal
Time to put up or shut up.
If they want to impeach, go right ahead. Let’s get this over with.
So Trump is “not above the law”?
Did he apply that standard to Hillary Clinton?
There is no crime James. In fact Comey has an exponentially better chance of ending up indicted than Trump.
We have Trump’s back. We also have arms, snowflake.
Comey is going down, Barr is going to put him away.
Excellent post. All you wrote needed to be said. Hope Trump gets this.
From the presumption of innocence to we know you’ve done something and if we look long and hard enough or set enough perjury traps we’ll get you.
Of course if it’s a Democrat they’re magnanimous when it comes to dropping investigations.
Thank you for your words of wisdom and encouragement.
Any real prosecutor knows you have to see all the evidence before making a filing decision.
This man is a fraud.
I have 28 months on my side. You have squat
Likely? Please, name the "likely" crime. Ordering the firing of Comey, who was an at-will appointee? No case.
I have 28 months on my side. You have squat
I have a legion of hard working, hard playing and hard loving MAGA
friends and people on my side, paying very close attention.
You have your hate and division. Smoldering away.
