Just hours after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle revealed their newborn son to the world, the child’s name has been announced.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have named their child Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, the couple revealed via Instagram.

The Queen was told of the child’s name when she met him for the first time today, following Meghan and Harry’s two-minute interview at Windsor Castle.

Doria Ragland, Meghan’s mother, and the Duke of Edinburgh were also present during the meeting with the Queen.

The seventh-in-line to the throne, who was born at 05:26am on 6 May 2019, hasn’t yet had his title revealed.

Have 3 generations with our family with the first name Archie. That’s the given name not their nickname. All born in USA. Family background English.

“a boy”... For now you mean. By the time he’s 10 he may be wearing heels and they’ll rush him to the hospital for a sex change procedure he will regret for the rest of his / her life... Just saying.

Could be worse -— could have named him Alf, another common name from the near past.

One of my grandsons was born with a gorgeous complexion. He was a natural birth and his skin was perfection and not at all red. We saw him only hours after was born.
He’s 12 and still has a flawless complexion.

"Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Herbert Mountbatten Windsor"

That's not a nice ring to it, and classy like his mother.

Glad to hear they didn't take the queen out on a gurney after they broke the news to her. This match-up has been a little stressful for the fine old girl.

I’m guessing that Harry probably wanted Archibald (named after some relative?) - and Meghan said no way, and they compromised on Archie.

My mom didn’t care for my son’s name. “What - your naming your son after your sister’s dog!!!?” (No. And she got used to it. The dog died years ago!)

I thought it was going to be something really out there. Like “Ice-T” or “Jay-Z” or whatever.

If the royal couple have a baby girl later on, I hope they don't name Archie's sister "Ann".

I think the baby is adorable and the name strikes exactly the right balance of tradition/modernity, british/american, etc... :)
