Sorry, didn't get home from a quick to Bloomington, IL in time to post yesterday's CG
You can find this little fun word game, to combat early dementia and senility in us baby boomers, in several daily publications, unfortunately they are copyrighted so we can't use them here. So, we're just going to make up our own.
The way it works is a letter stands for another letter. For example: AXYDLBAAXR is LONGFELLOW (does not apply to today's cryptogram).
Beware, the game is very addictive. If this is your first time, don't be intimidated.
PLEASE DO NOT post the answer in general comments, but DO post your time and any tips you might give the group on how you solve these puzzles as puzzle solvers love to hear how you made out.
You can certainly send your solution to my private reply, or if you need a hint for todays Cryptogram.
Solving the puzzle under 8 minutes is good, under 6 very good, under 4 excellent and under 2 "you're a pro!"
Those of you looking for an added challenge can try to solve one sentence or even one word at a time, i.e. solve the entire first line, then go to the second line etc.
If you need a little help you can copy the cryptogram and paste it to Hals Helper below:
You can then work on the puzzle without using pen and paper.
Solution to our last puzzle:
ART WASHES AWAY FROM THE SOUL THE DUST OF EVERYDAY LIFE. --PABLO PICASSO
Under 2 min. Solved contractions, things fell into place. Thanks for your daily posts. Glad you are back to start the week. Missed you yesterday.
3 min. I didn’t notice the 2nd contraction, and got the 2nd letter of the first contraction wrong.
Need MOAR coffee.
I print each day's puzzle for my wife. She looks forward to them. Helps her shake out the cobwebs and get moving for the day. Fortunately, I had a few saved up for such a "rainy day." Perhaps you could make some in text format to be saved as a buffer. Thanks for doing this.
Maybe three minutes. Not alert enough to set a timer.
I just glance at the clock on the upper right of my computer display when I start, then again once I’m done, and estimate.
I don’t start coffee until 5.
Remembering to look at the computer clock way way up in that corner is right at the edge of my capability...
Caffeine is a vitamin.
1 minute!
Less than a minute. I don’t know how, but I recognized the name instantly.
Coffee started and gurgling...
I love this one 1 minute and a saying close to my heart from a man I respect.
Very true, one works best for others.
Still too dark to discern if there are bunnies in the yard.
Good idea...
One bunny in the front yard, one in the back.
Thanks for the puzzle. I missed you yesterday, too. It was a treat having an easy-for-me one today since the last one seemed a killer for me. :)
Took my time today, had to savor the moment because I was having withdrawals yesterday. Wasn’t aware that doing morning CG has become a big part of my morning ritual.
Thank you nikos for the morning joy!
I raise my coffee cup to you!
and a toast!
I know the feeling. We have close to 75 here, many of whom have the CG to start the day on a good note.
I enjoy all the positive comments, esp the suggestions.
Wish we had a cool home page logo or something...
This was an easy one.
Last one stumped me for a minute. Had to put it down and figured it pretty easily when I came back to it. I think my brain must have subconsciously kept working on it while away.
