Asimov did a novelization based on the screen play.

She acted so well millions of moms sighed over soiled linen. Seriously though, that was a good movie due for a big budget upgrade.

When I saw the movie in the theater in the fall of 1966, I realized that this was a Cold War movie. The victim's name was Jan Beneš, so he was obviously Czech. However, the movie makers chose to play down the conflict between Communism and the West, saying only that "the other side" got to him.

Early on as a moviegoer, I noticed that in films that pitted the West against fascism, the fascists were clearly the bad guys and the West usually won. By contrast, films with Cold War themes usually concluded with a catastrophe (Fail Safe, Dr. Strangelove, The Bedford Incident) or a Mexican standoff (The Russians Are Coming!, Ice Station Zebra).

The cartoon from the 70s was ultra campy.

Perhaps Amber Lancaster since she is a dancer and actress she could do some of the physical things Raquel did. Or possibly Jessica Biel for the same reasons. Raquel’s character could be almost any age above 25 as she was educated to have the background to go with them. She was supposed to be Dr. Duval’s assistant but, let’s face it, she wasn’t cast there by the producers to be smart and didn’t have to prove it very much. But it did get her a full time contract and she was immediately loaned to Hammer to make 10,000,000 years B.C. Another acting requirement that might have got her an oscar. Or might not....two lines. But it did get her a poster.

Saw it as a kid at my local movie theater. I was 10. Couldn't understand why I couldn't take my eyes off Raquel.

That would be true acting. Isn’t she in her mid 50s? I would think the role calls for a woman in her late 20s.

I hear Raquel Welch swung her arms when she walked in this one. I was young and didn’t really notice her arms.

What? She had arms?

They had to exit the scientists body before Raquel Welch’s breasts got too big again.

He also had science and continuity issues with the film:

Why didn’t the saline that was injected into Bennings with the Proteus grow in an hour and kill him?
The laser rifle, too?
When resupplying the Proteus with the air from Bennings’s lungs, it shouldn’t have worked because the oxygen atoms would have been too big for them to breathe in their shrunken size?

That’s just from memory.
