“Washing your chicken?”
Cuts down on friction burns.
And seeing the danger of the chicken juice, best practice is to double bag it while having your hands bagged.
And a full cover for the shopping cart and handle.
Good job for a robot in a moon suit, with a third clean arm to distribute coupons.
LOL!!!....love it!!!
NEXT....the idiotic radio commercials that begin with a tone that cost us thousands of $$$....like, I sit next to you on the bus, next to you at work for years and you don’t know I have a hunger problem...blah, blah, blah....NOT, absurd nowadays as they’d put their hunger on facebook, etc.
also the one that almost makes me sick...the poo one...is your poo a funny color...a odd shape??...well then, you might have aldkaddklajodisosis (just typed some letters!) and call your physician immediately, don’t wait....blah, blah, blah.........
all brought to you by our government who is broke!
Wash your own damn chicken!
??? Some kind of a disconnect???
I’m not feeling the love?
Or.... just don’t wash your chicken over other utensils and dishes!
Purchase a re-usable burlap sack marked “raw chicken only.” Add flour and seasoning, shake, bake, and reuse!
Do I have to think of everything?
I never wash my raw chicken, especially since I’ve started using them as bedding.
I don’t wash it to kill or remove germs; I wash it to moisten it to hold the seasonings on. And i’d rather the seasoning layer not taste like old blood.
When I purchase a whole chicken I rinse one of the two bowls in the kitchen sink, then I cut/break down the chicken in the sink.
The pieces are transferred to a Rubbermaid container then salt and EVOO are added.
I shake this container every few minutes and add more EVOO and salt to ensure proper coverage.
Once the grill is ready...well you know the rest.
I clean the sink after breaking down the chicken.
This ‘news story’ reminds me of Emeril: ‘Oooh! The chicken police!’
Old blood?
That probably gets to the original point to it—when people raised and killed and cleaned their own chickens and then took the cleaning steps that commercial distributors now do to assure no blood, feathers, etc., are left in an unsavory way.
Then such practices got passed down through the generations.
“Washing raw chicken used to be standard and I never understood that.”
I personally would rather wash off the spit and urine deposited by the wetbacks working in the local chicken processing plants. YTMV*

As a former Hazmat team member I have always thought the way that most people prepare chicken is likely to contaminate their work area and other items on the menu. But because of the unsanitary practices that are prevalent most of us probably have stronger immune systems than we would otherwise.
It reminds me of all the overprotected kids that we have in the country today. I grew up with dogs, cats, horses, cows, pigs, goats, mules, donkeys, and other livestock, next to a busy road. Both of my parents worked and we had little supervision. We played in dirt, mud and manure all of the time. We had access to tractors, motorcycles, and even old trucks. We didn’t have any helmets. I have got so many lumps and indentations on the back of my head that when my hair falls out I am pretty sure people are going to be pointing and wondering what happened to me.
When I got my first 10 speed when I was 13 I rode it everywhere. One time I told my dad I was going to ride it up to Mount Rainier which was over 50 miles away. He said, “Fine.” I had all sorts of challenges on my adventure and didn’t make it back until long after dark. My parents just asked me if I had a good time.
I got in trouble with my daughter because when my grandson was six I taught him to write his name on a piece of sheet steel with a MIG welder and earlier in the day had set up a zip line with some bicycle handlebars that he had to climb up an extension ladder to use. At 17 he is still a rough and tumble kid who thinks that he is invincible and now I worry that I might have been a bit of a bad influence. But in general it is true that what doesn’t kill us makes us stronger.
That’s what I always wondered....how would washing be better than cooking? Seems you would be spreading whatever is on the raw chicken everywhere by washing, where if you just stuck it in a pan and cooked it well...the germs would be cooked away.
I always put chicken (even though it is already packaged) in another plastic bag before putting in the grocery cart. In case the first wrapping is contaminated or leaky. I leave it in the extra bag or 2, if putting in the fridge before using, and sometimes before putting in the freezer.
Also, at Fareway Foods around here, you can buy whole chickens or pieces from behind the meat counter, not pre-packaged.
Sorry.
Continuing joke I had with my pal.
Not directed at you.
Disposable bag... disposable bag...
Like... plastic?
Oh yeah - I remember - same idiots who got styrene foam containers (McDonalds) banned and now have fits about the plastic covered cardboard.
What would I do without the government telling me what to do?...
Here is SW Pennsylvania, we have the opportunity to look for the Amish label for about a dime a pound extra.
Martha Stewart got salmonella poisoning and she raises her own critters.
Dec 7, 2012 - Martha Stewart has reported that she got Salmonella poisoning from Thanksgiving Turkeys this year...
That made me feel fortunate to still be breathing!!!
Went to a sister in laws for T-day, the house is packed around the TV, I spot a RAW bird in the kitchen and ask if she is making extras?
Oh no, she says, it will only take a little over an hour!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
She is not big on math.
Then she attempted to accelerate the cooking????
Hours past the scheduled dinner time, they bring the bird out and start to carve it.
BLOOD EVERYWHERE!!!!!
I still occasionally have flashbacks.
