As a former Hazmat team member I have always thought the way that most people prepare chicken is likely to contaminate their work area and other items on the menu. But because of the unsanitary practices that are prevalent most of us probably have stronger immune systems than we would otherwise.

It reminds me of all the overprotected kids that we have in the country today. I grew up with dogs, cats, horses, cows, pigs, goats, mules, donkeys, and other livestock, next to a busy road. Both of my parents worked and we had little supervision. We played in dirt, mud and manure all of the time. We had access to tractors, motorcycles, and even old trucks. We didn’t have any helmets. I have got so many lumps and indentations on the back of my head that when my hair falls out I am pretty sure people are going to be pointing and wondering what happened to me.

When I got my first 10 speed when I was 13 I rode it everywhere. One time I told my dad I was going to ride it up to Mount Rainier which was over 50 miles away. He said, “Fine.” I had all sorts of challenges on my adventure and didn’t make it back until long after dark. My parents just asked me if I had a good time.

I got in trouble with my daughter because when my grandson was six I taught him to write his name on a piece of sheet steel with a MIG welder and earlier in the day had set up a zip line with some bicycle handlebars that he had to climb up an extension ladder to use. At 17 he is still a rough and tumble kid who thinks that he is invincible and now I worry that I might have been a bit of a bad influence. But in general it is true that what doesn’t kill us makes us stronger.

Yep. But sometimes it does kill us. I had a friend killed at 15 fooling around with a motorcycle that he did not have permission to ride.

Our daughter and S_I_L have a couple of acres with some nice trees, I scrounged up a couple of hundred feet of 3/8 cable...

And I like your handlebar idea!
Have a nice flat bar from a mountain bike in stock...

For the grandkids.
