Incidentally, I'd like to thank all of you for keeping this little forum alive. It's been fun for me and brightens my day to hear from you. Hope it's also fun for you.
You can find this little fun word game, to combat early dementia and senility in us baby boomers, in several daily publications, unfortunately they are copyrighted so we can't use them here. So, we're just going to make up our own.
The way it works is a letter stands for another letter. For example: AXYDLBAAXR is LONGFELLOW (does not apply to today's cryptogram).
Beware, the game is very addictive. If this is your first time, don't be intimidated.
PLEASE DO NOT post the answer in general comments, but DO post your time and any tips you might give the group on how you solve these puzzles as puzzle solvers love to hear how you made out.
You can certainly send your solution to my private reply, or if you need a hint for todays Cryptogram.
Solving the puzzle under 8 minutes is good, under 6 very good, under 4 excellent and under 2 "you're a pro!"
Those of you looking for an added challenge can try to solve one sentence or even one word at a time, i.e. solve the entire first line, then go to the second line etc.
If you need a little help you can copy the cryptogram and paste it to Hals Helper below:
You can then work on the puzzle without using pen and paper.
Solution to our last puzzle:
LOTS OF PEOPLE KNOW A GOOD THING THE MINUTE THE OTHER FELLOW SEES IT FIRST. C.E. HEDGES
1 minute.
PGCP word got me started.
1 minute. The authors name, an old friend, came in very quickly. The contraction, the word after the comma, the second word & then as fast as I could type.
Don’t you love it when that happens?
Yes, good old ABCA sequence that get the blood going into our brain and fingers.
Yes I do, I seem to be getting the hang of this.
;0
I didn’t know that he painted.
< 2 min.
Do the contraction first, folks, and it’s all downhill from there.
I know it was fast but maybe not quite as fast as
‘Cool Papa’ Bell— who once hit a ball that went whizzing past Satchel Paige’s ear and the ball hit Bell as he was sliding into second.
So, I guess Mermaids aren’t real?

Thank you for posting these - I love them!
Or as fast as Muhammad Ali, who can turn out light and be in bed before lights out.
That was picked up from the ‘Satchel Paige collection’ who made that comment (as mine today) in reference to ‘Papa’ Joe Bell and ‘ole Satch’ probably picked it up from somewhere else....<: <: <:
Either way, that is FAST.........
I thought that was true..
Hello Nikos . . . thank you for the cryptogram thread, I don’t time my answers, but, I haven’t missed solving one yet.
I must admit, I don’t time myself either. I’m into solving the first line, then the second line etc.
In fact, as many note, once you’ve got the puzzle solved, you’re fingers take over, and it’s like the last ten feet of a three legged race.
