Australian officials are airdropping poisonous sausages across the country in order to kill millions of feral cats that have taken over the continent.
In 2015, the countrys government announced a plan to kill 2 million feral cats by 2020, according to a recent report from The New York Times.

Meow no more...
Hey, Oz geniuses!
Whattya figger the millions of feral cats are eating now that they won’t be eating after you kill them all.
Tell ya What’s Gonna Happen...
You’ll quickly be over-run with whatever the cats WERE eating.
(Whattya expect from an upside-down country?)
Morons...
PETA is going to find so much of this wrong. They wont know where to start.
If they ever tried that in this country it would doom a lot of socialists.
This is when demographic mathematics needs to be evaluated.
Australia has about 18 million feral cats.
“Feral cats have an average of 1.4 litters per year, with an average 3.5 live births in each litter. That equals 4.9 kittens per year, per female feral cat. A pair of breeding cats and their offspring can produce 420,000 kittens over a seven-year period.”
Their poisoned sausage program is expected to kill 400,000 feral cats a year. So this being said, all this program will do is modestly reduce the rate of growth of feral cats.
Are we to assume that there are no other critters in Australia that will eat the sausages?
Make sure it's halal, mates.
The native birds, which is precisely why they're doing this. Each feral cat kills on average two native birds in Australia every day.
Takes 15 minutes for their 1080 poison to kill the cat.
meanwhile:
“The Times reported that cats are believed to have been one of the main threats to 22 of the 34 species in Australia that have gone extinct since the 1700s - species that existed nowhere else in the world ... cats in Australia are estimated to kill 377 million birds and 649 reptiles every year, the Independent reported.
Feral cats are a nationally significant pest that threaten our unique native fauna. While recognizing the important role of domestic cats as companion animals, domestic and stray cats may also threaten native fauna, the Australian National Declaration said, in part.
“Ministers also agreed that the management of feral cats will be considered a priority in threatened species recovery programs, the declaration added.”
way to go, I hope they do this in the USA...far too many cats in towns, cities, defecating and urinating on lawns and gardens, transmitting rabies and toxoplasmosis and are just plain filthy and wild.
There are far too many mentally ill men and woman who spend their whole lives feeding these filty, wild animals, “rescuing them” doing TNR, etc.
What the USA needs is actual “animal control” so far these democrats control the politicians, they are well funded and have legal representation as well.
These same individuals do nothing for humans in need, only wild, feral cats.
don’t worry- they passed a law that ONLY cats can eat the sausages
One result is some native species they're trying to protect from feral cats are going to ingest the poison. If there are native scavenging animals they will feed off the dead cats and consume the poison.
I understand they have to do something but random poisoning could end up being counter-productive and will likely have unintended consequences.
Everything in nature works in a vacuum...
Let’s get rid of the cats.
Having millions of rats everywhere is so much better...
In the 19th and 20th centuries, various animals, especially cats and rabbits, were introduced to MacQuarie Island, an Australian-owned island between New Zealand and Antarctica, and they disrupted the local ecosystem of seals, penguins and other birds. When everything else failed, the Australians launched a program to eradicate EVERY mammal on the island except for the seals. Hunters and their traps bagged the last pest in 2011, and when no more were seen over the next three years, the program was declared a success in 2014. My guess is that the Australians are now trying to do something like that on their continent.
“Whattya figger the millions of feral cats are eating now that they wont be eating after you kill them all.”
What living creatures would kill cats and eat what the cats ate? This reminds me of a James Bond movie.
