Todays Cryptogram
PIIBJO IO GWQJO LC VILBV QI SLJ, YZQ LC BIQ VILBV QI OJQLOJ.-CWOVWOJQ CJWS
You can find this little fun word game, to combat early dementia and senility in us baby boomers, in several daily publications, unfortunately they are copyrighted so we can't use them here. So, we're just going to make up our own.
The way it works is a letter stands for another letter. For example: AXYDLBAAXR is LONGFELLOW (does not apply to today's cryptogram).
Beware, the game is very addictive. If this is your first time, don't be intimidated.
PLEASE DO NOT post the answer in general comments, but DO post your time and any tips you might give the group on how you solve these puzzles as puzzle solvers love to hear how you made out.
You can certainly send your solution to my private reply, or if you need a hint for todays Cryptogram.
Solving the puzzle under 8 minutes is good, under 6 very good, under 4 excellent and under 2 "you're a pro!"
Those of you looking for an added challenge can try to solve one sentence or even one word at a time, i.e. solve the entire first line, then go to the second line etc.
If you need a little help you can copy the cryptogram and paste it to Hals Helper below:
You can then work on the puzzle without using pen and paper.
Solution to our last puzzle:
A MAN IS KNOWN BY THE COMPANY THAT KEEPS HIM ON AFTER RETIREMENT AGE. -SOURCE OBSCURE
2 1/2 min. Got the contractions, conjunction after comma, 3 letter popular suffix, and was able to fill in remaining blanks. I have heard of the author.
4 min. Rather tricky.
Got the contraction right away; the double letter in the first word was key, as it opened up the first three words.
I’m seeing a theme here. =)
Right at 2 minutes, same as other person said - contraction, conjunction after comma, 2 letter words.
1 minute!
Actually had you in mind, along with the others in transition, when I posted this.
Am I getting ahead of myself, or do I detect a ‘theme’ growing here?
Excellent line, something - (were I older than or cleverer than) - would have said myself. Had I thought of it.
NOt really. THese quotations seem to go in cycles. I try to post those that have some uniqueness to them, ie contractions, double letters, an easily recognized suffix, etc.
It’s amazing how good everyone is getting. Especially, when some here couldn’t complete one within an hour at first. Now it’s like ramming speed, once they’ve got the hook sunk on the solution.
Probably the easiest one yet.
