The CDC estimates that there are 300,000 cases of Chagas in the U.S., with most of those contracted in other countries. But the family of the girl who was bit had not traveled outside the country recently, the statement said.

It’s like intentionally shooting yourself.

This guy has been shot and he said a wheel bug bite is like getting shot..and a wheel bug isn’t as bad as a bullet ant

https://www.sfgate.com/homeandgarden/article/Wheel-bugs-deliver-world-of-hurt-Their-bite-2880616.php

thankfully, I have escaped being bitten by these various things have seen in the yard.

Cracks and gaps should be inspected and sealed, and chimney flues should be tightly closed when they are not in use...

Seal your homes, but never your borders.

Chagas disease is caused by a protozoon. Since this is a one-celled organism with a nucleus, instead of a bacteria without a nucleus, the medications that kill it tend to be very hard on human beings and a lot of people can’t tolerate the course of treatment.

There may be a vaccine in development, but in the meanwhile, don’t live in a thatched roof house and don’t raise guinea pigs for food.

I did my term paper on Chagas Disease in veterinary school back in 1981 and warned that if the bug were to move North veterinarians were going to have to look closer at hematological samples for the parasites because the disease affects dogs also. The epidemiological map then suggested that the disease and the kissing bugs were moving North even then without the help of the illegal immigrants. One could have predicted this back then as we did the Venezuelan Equine Encephalitis disease as a model back in 1971.
