FULL TITLE: Woman Gets Uber Driver Fired For Refusing To Take Her To Get An Abortion. Now She's Looking To Sue Him.
A 20-year-old college student in upstate New York reported an Uber driver for refusing to take her to get an abortion. According to the womens account, which was reported on by Yahoo! Style (UK), the ride-sharing company canned the pro-lifer.
But now the woman is looking to take legal against the driver.
Im in college in upstate NY and I dont have a car on campus because its expensive, she wrote in a message posted to Reddit earlier this month.
Im 20 years old and I found out I was pregnant and subsequently decided I wanted an abortion because Im in no position to care for a child, the woman said.
She found a clinic about an hour from her university, because the nearby Planned Parenthood had a schedule that didnt work for her. Because I dont have a car, I rely on Uber and [L]yft to get me places, she said.
The student then recounted her interaction with the Uber driver, who attempted to dissuade the woman from choosing abortion before telling her he could not drive her to the clinic.
My appointment was at 11:30am so at 9:58am my Uber arrived and he immediately seemed uncomfortable. After about five minutes in the car, he asked, are we going to a planned parenthood? I said no (because we werent), but it set off alarm bells that he would even ask that, she recounted. The destination I put in was just the name of the doctor and the address of the clinic, there was nothing that would suggest it was an abortion clinic. After a few more minutes he asked, are we going to an abortion clinic?

Good afternoon.
“Some of the geniuses told me here they were allowed to kick anyone out at any time”
I was one of those “geniuses.”
The suit will go nowhere.
Said One of the “geniuses.”

I have, but I think right now praying for the souls of those who have such little regard for innocent unborn would be a better service.
Lady, if you kept your legs closed, you wouldn’t need to murder your child. Uber, you fired a driver for the belief that Abortion is Murder? WTF?
He should have billed her for two passengers
She was given two choices: Get out or be taken someplace she didn't want to go. It's that simple.
She should have sued him before he got fired. Now he has no job and no money to pay anything in a lawsuit.
Money-grubbing, social justice diva warrior who wants everyone else to pay for her mistake. The eternally offended and always quick to blame someone else.
Some people create too much drama in their lives.
She could have just called for another Uber driver.
Still defending the girl’s murderous and hateful actions?
Still attacking a pro-life person who lost his job for refusing to compromise his convictions?
Your words remind me of Judas who attacked the woman for anointing Christ’s feet with expensive perfume.
Reminds me of the Uber driver who dumped a rider in the middle of nowhere because he had on a MAGA hat and was a Trump voter.
“The RIGHT THING would be following through in helping them once they are brought into this earth and not stopping our concern at the point of birth”
Who are you even talking to?
How would you have a clue as to whether this particular driver along with many people on this forum DO adopt children and do many things beyond simply opposing abortion.
Something is VERY, VERY wrong with a person who comes onto a conservative forum and attacks a person for their pro-life convictions and sides with a murderous Jezebel who got him fired.
I’m starting to get the feeling that some folks on this forum are NOT pro-life at all and don’t have sense enough to keep their mouths shut about an issue which they have no business commenting on on a pro-life forum.
According to the woman's account, the driver knew, based on his questions, where she was going and what her plans were within 10-15 minutes of picking her up. So why did he continue to drive her out into the country, tell her that she couldn't get another Uber from there, and that he would only take her back home?
The only instance I can find of that was in DC, where three congressional interns in MAGA hats tried to get a ride from Capitol Hill to the Trump Hotel. Reading the stories, it's unclear that the car went anywhere, but in either case, it's a distance of 2 miles around the National Mall, hardly the middle of nowhere.
His contract, if there is one is with UBER... not this individual.
Because dogs are not the high sacrament of liberalism.
“His contract, if there is one is with UBER... not this individual.”
you need to see a lawyer.
That is not true at all. He was driving her to her destination, and decided he couldn’t. He told her he would either drive her back to the city, or leave her off where they were. He WARNED her that there probably no Uber that would pick her up at the location he had stopped.
STill a dick move — he should have immediately refused her, not taken her half way. Once you pick up the person, and start driving them, I feel like you have obligations — just like once a woman allows sperm to impregnate her eggs, and allows the embryo to hitch a ride in her uterus, she has accepted a certain obligation (like you can drive past a person bleeding on the side of the road, but if you pick them up, you can’t drive them 10 minutes and then throw them out of the car again).
“The only instance I can find of that was in DC”
Can’t find a link to it. It was quite a while back. I think it was back during the 2016 primary season and the rider was headed to a rally and got into a strong disagreement over Trump with the Uber driver, who then asked that he exit the vehicle.
So technically it wasn’t the MAGA hat directly that led to his being dumped though it was likely the conversation starter.
Poor baby.
I guess what she wants trumps everything.
I suppose you’re also of the camp that of she had said she was going to go murder her boyfriend instead of the baby, you’d be cheering the guy on for not taking her.
Or would you be condemning him for not taking her as well?
Seems so. At least in Redmond Washington before I escaped. Got tired of living in Mumbai.
So you justify it when it happens to a Trump supporter, and condemn it when it happens to someone going for an abortion.
You're true colors are showing.
BTW, DU called. They're missing one of their members. You'd better report back in.
I get your point. If he'd driven her all the way, he would've had more time to talk with her.
He sure didn't change her mind by dropping her off somewhere else.
Then again, if he'd driven her all the way, she might've still gone through with her decision and complained about him to his employer.
Or maybe not... who knows? Faced with this situation, the poor guy probably didn't know what to do.
