INTELLECTUAL ROCK: My Favorite Listening Music

Posted on 04/21/2019 6:36:15 AM PDT by DIRTYSECRET

My friends there is such a thing. It makes you want to listen closely to the lyrics. My examples would be Emerson, Lake, and Palmer "From the Beginning". Then there's Elton with "Mona Lisa and Mad Hatters." Yes-"I've Seen All Good People and Rod Stewart's "Gasoline Alley". It makes your ears work a bit but worth it. Funny how it's mostly 70's music.

His third solo album (melt) is one of my faves.

Nothing could top his first solo album. "Moribund the Burgermeister", "Waiting for the Big One", "Humdrum", "Here Comes the Flood", and of course, "Solsbury Hill".

“You are thinking of a different song.”

Yes, I was thinking of Old Time Rock and Roll by Seger.

I must not have heard Rock and Roll Music.

Richard Harris was a real talent. He charged that Paul Newman And Robert Redford weren’t actors, just characters. That’s when I realized he was a very good SERIOUS actor.

BTW you folks are great. I’m learning a lot here.

Nice list.

Add to that Roxy Music, finally inducted into the R&R Hall of Fame.

Yes' Siberian Khatru starts off most of the playlists I listen to when I go walking. That song has so much energy, and by the time it's finished, I'm over a half mile from my house. A great start to my 5-10 mile walks.

I could be persuaded to agree with him about Newman and Redford, and I like Newman.

“and he’d kick you out of the band if he found out you did drugs.”

Zappa had druggies and drunks in all of his bands.

He would only kick them out of they showed up at the studio, rehearsal or a show drugged or drunk.

Or missed a single friggin’ note.

And they had to read music, playing it precisely as written.

He was one of the great musical minds of the 20th century.

Ah, Steely Dan!
Some lines of My Old School come to mind:

It was still September
When your daddy was quite surprised
To find you with the working girls in the county jail
I was smoking with the boys upstairs when I
Heard about the whole affair, I said oh no
William and Mary won't do

XTC is my favorite band, the whole album “Nonsuch” is fantastic, I remember I was a bit disappointed in it when it first came out, but it had IMHO some of Andy’s best writing, and has now become my favorite XTC album.

ELP is my favorite band, and Trilogy is my favorite ELP album. The Endless Enigma from Trilogy was actually covered by another band, Mastermind, and they do a really good job.

Yes! I had both Journey To The Center Of The Earth and The Six Wives Of Henry The Eighth back when they came out.

Dittoes. I have both albums, which have been languishing in my garage since returning from Germany in 81, along with 400+ albums that I purchased during my tour.

The good news is I stored them in such a manner that they have not been affected by heat/humidity. They will be unpacked and replayed once our remodel project is completed.

I agree Trilogy is their best album, and the title track is just amazing.

And Greg Lake was a fantastic vocalist.

Those two albums will sound much better on vinyl too. I only have the cassettes and cd’s. Lost my vinyl collection at some point in the shuffle of life.
