A Florida fishing boat captain shared video of his latest catch: a 757-pound swordfish that could be a new state record.
Capt. Nick Stanczyk posted a video to YouTube showing scenes from his fishing trip off the coast of Islamorada, in the Florida Keys.
The video shows Stanczyk landing a 757-pound swordfish.
The captain said it took about eight hours to reel the fish in, and it took seven people to haul the massive fish off the boat.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission lists the state record for a swordfish at 612 pounds, meaning Stanczyk's catch might be a new record.

a lot of $$$
Current local price for swordfish steaks is $11.99/lb................

Did you read the skipper's own account?
He called it a harpoon, too.
No sane person would throw that back. At a fish monger, that sucker would be worth multiple thousands of dollars.
When I first started reading the title, my brain was expecting to read
“Florida fishing boat captain reels in 757 AR-15’s.”
From all those tragic boating accidents!...............
I guess he made a big gaff......................
And the neighbor’s grills, and the freezer, and their freezers ...
That does not look like a 1200 pound fish..................
“””I also noted that they fought fish from rod holder...not sure that is IGFA legal either.”””
My girlfriends father would cut yer line if you did that in front of him...
I only ate swordfish once. I thought it was a lot better than tuna — it had no fishy or “gamey” taste at all. As prepared, it was more like a cross between the best chicken you ever ate and a great steak, but....
I never ate it again because other fish properly prepared are almost as good. A 3-5 lb. blue catfish out of really clean water, marinated in 7 up and then deep fried or even smoked, can be terrific, for example. IMO, trout, bluegill (out of many freshwater species), out of good water, salmon, and a whole assortment of saltwater fish can be great, and not overly “fishy” tasting at all. It’s all in the prep...
AND... (back to swordfish): They run very high in mercury, and a big one is going to be worse. “Top of the food chain.” A small one would be safer, and (for other reasons) likely better tasting, too. OTOH, if you are past 70, go for it. We are the “Tiptop of the food chain” & relatively long lived, so, for a human at 70 or older, eating that big fish probably will not do much more damage.
The 1200 pound fish pic is the ONE that won’t come up!...............
Don’t think that’s the record fish in that pic.
Note the set in that rod? Prolly calcutta or bamboo with agate guides
There are a lot of parasites in swordfish. Just make sure it’s cooked properly. In big swordfish, they can be 1/4” or bigger in diameter (dang Bourdain for pointing it out in one of his books...)
A guy I know grew up in the retail fish biz and said to be careful with Swordfish as doesn’t stink like other fish when it gets old and merchants want to sell everything and not throw it out.
After reading Bourdain, I choose other saltwater fish.
