Qualcomm and Apple today announced an agreement to dismiss all litigation between the two companies worldwide.
The settlement includes a payment from Apple to Qualcomm.
The companies also have reached a six-year license agreement, effective as of April 1, 2019, including a two-year option to extend, and a multiyear chipset supply agreement.

MacDailyNews Take: Ta da!
As we wrote back in August 2017:
All along, this has been a dance over royalties, with Apple seeking more amenable terms to Qualcomms highway robbery to date. We expect a settlement as well, eventually (once Qualcomm is sufficiently worn down) a settlement that benefits Apple vs. the old agreement.
A wise move on both parts and keeps 5G from being stolen by China.

Not surprisingly, Qualcomm's stock rose high after the news hit.
Old African proverb:
When elephants fight, the grass gets trampled....................
Bingo!
Nobody is getting too excited - up 20 cents on the after hours markets.
And the lawyers are richer but now a little bummed its all over.
Likely? Any proof of that or did they just lose bigtime?
The original figure for back royalties that QCOM was seeking from AAPL in the trial was $17B. I think when the AAPL lawyers saw the looks on the San Diego juror’s faces as they pleaded their hardship case at being treated so unfairly by that mean old QCOM they decided to fold the tent and negotiate for a lower settlement. My best guess would be $7-8B or about half.
Google gave Apple a nice round $1B for making them the default search engine on iPhones and iPads.
I held qcom from around 1998 to 2000 and made some money. Those were the days!
What was apples position going in?
The Qualcomm stuff will likely be incorporated into Apple chips that work faster and better.
