Tiger WINS The Masters: A Resurgent Woods returns to Glory at Augusta after 14 years without [Trunc]

Tiger Woods has won The Masters tournament in an astonishing comeback after 14 years without a green jacket.

Woods, 43, was tied for second going into the final round on Sunday at Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia, but pulled into the lead on the back nine and won as his mother and girlfriend looked on.

It is the first time Woods has won a major when he did not have a lead or co-lead after 54 holes, and his first win at The Masters since 2005.

Woods caught up with tournament leader Francesco Molinari on the 12th hole, when Molinari double-bogeyed on a shot into the water.

On the back nine, there was at one point a five-way tie for first place, with Woods, Molinari, Xander Schauffele, Brooks Koepka and Dustin Johnson all sitting at 12 under par.

Woods jumped out to the lead with a birdie on the 15th hole for 13 under. He went two up on the field with another birdie on the 16th.

Jack did not have half the competition which exists today with international field (Molinary, Jason Day, Adam Scott, Rory McElroy, Si Woo Kim, Henrik Stenson, Jon Rahm etc) and long hitters like Bubba Watson and Dustin Johnson, not to mention amazing American young talents like Patrick Cantlay, Rickie Fowler, Justin Thomas, Matt Kuchar, Xander Schauffele, Jordan Spieth and multiple majors winner Brooks Koepka.

It's impossible to compare different eras. Jack had Arnold Palmer, Gary Player, Lee Trevino, Tony Jacklin, Ray Floyd, as rivals, and later Johnny Miller and Tom Watson and Ben Crenshaw came along. And towards the end that guy from Spain, Seve Ballesteros. Most of those were multiple major winners. Koepka, Speith, McIlroy, are young guns with multiple major wins... Other than them, Mickelson (five majors) is now 48 and Ernie Els (four majors) 49. It will be an even bigger deal than today if Phil manages a another major - I would love to see it but am not very confident. Els barely even plays a full schedule any more.

But to me the biggest factor in the decision as to whom is the Greatest of All Time, it is Nicklaus' 19 second place finishes in the majors in addition to his 18 wins. That means he was virtually always in contention in 37 of them.

At the 12th, Molinari’s shot was smack dab in the middle of the pond. I do believe that’s one of the worst misses I’ve ever seen.

Pressure? Maybe he stood on the 12th tee and realized, hey, I'm winning The Master's.

Tiger never was very good at choosing women. I thought that she was a hottie. After that, what else could you want in a woman?

Which one was the girlfriend? I saw no hottie.... Last I heard he had just broken up with Lindsey Von...

Molinari’s shot at 12 was not directly in the drink. It was short of the green and rolled back into the water. The 3rd at 15 looked like a chunk, but it hit the bottom of a limb and went directly down into the creek. You can see a pine cone fall due to limb impact.

There were two hole-in-one’s today on the 16th green and a couple more that looked like they could have gone in. Lots of celebrations among all the golfers on that hole.

No argument Jack Nicklaus was the best player of his era. The game has changed a lot now. The courses are longer, greens are much faster, equipment is better by orders of magnitude over the wooden clubs of Nicklaus era.

As I said before, during his 20’s and early 30’s Tiger Woods won by larger # of strokes his majors than anybody has done in a century. If he had not messed up his life, who can tell how many majors he would have won. As one who has played golf for 60 years, and for 20 years full time 5 days a week, and knowing something about physics with my master’s degree in mechanical engineering, in my mind, Tiger Woods is the best golf I have seen.

WoW $85,000 is a lot of gamble on when the field is full of great golfers.

Molinari had this tournament and the pressure got to him. The hero praise for Woods is what all these great players had to put up with. The first three rounds the leaders were all but ignored while the reporting was 99% Woods worship. If Molinari hadn’t been teamed with Woods there’s a chance that golf ball ain’t going in the water. Yes Woods won it but the constant attention put on Woods is ridiculous. The best player in the world is Koepka, not Tiger Woods. Seeing other golfers get some attention for the past few years has been nice. It’s all over now. They’re all playing for second place.Just ask those so-called reporters on ESPN.

So, let’s recap.

Vonn- Disses Trump. Crashes out of the Olympics.

Tiger - Plays with Trump. Wins Masters.

There’s a lesson there, kids.
