AUGUSTA, Ga. Here he comes.
Brace yourself, Augusta.
Brace yourself, golf world.
Tiger Woods, 14 years removed from his last Masters victory, is in prime position entering the weekend to seize his fifth green jacket.
Woods, who last won the Masters in 2005, stormed up the Augusta National manually operated leaderboards with a 4-under 68 in Fridays second round and stood at 6-under for the tournament. That was one shot out of the lead shared by Jason Day, Francesco Molinari, Brooks Koepka, Adam Scott and Louis Oosthuizen.
Woods in contention at the Masters again. Just the way it always used to be when he was winning in 1997, 2001, 2002 and 2005.

The first is fake news
The second is 100% accurate...just like Barry Bonds.
I’m happy to see Tiger doing well again. Anyone playing good golf has my attention. I’ve been watching all day. The coverage is very fair. They’re not hyping Woods at all. Some great golf being played by the leaders on a beautiful day and gorgeous course.
Phil went around in 70 today, which is not bad. But three other players have posted 64s so a 70 is not going to move you up very much. One more round.... I would not say he’s out of it but it will take a very very good round tomorrow.
Right now it looks like Molinari is the man to beat. Through fifty-one holes he has one, count ‘me, one, bogey. An Italian Master’s champion?! There would definitely be pasta on the menu at next year’s champions dinner!
Also heard they are starting early and from both the 1st and the 10th holes b/c of impending weather. Must be a heck of a storm!
Conners is a heckuva story. Last week he had to compete in a Monday qualifier - seventy-some players for four spots - just to get into the tournament. He wins and here he is a week later competing in The Master's.
Oh, Elin did okay. LOL!
Yes, early start tomorrow. The leaders will go off about 9:30... and threesomes instead of the usual pairs. Molinari, Woods, and Finau will be the final group. I'm impressed with Molinari - he's playing lights out. But there's many a three-round leader who does not end up as the winner. Should be a great finish. I never thought I would ever see an Italian win The Master's. I lived in Italy for a number of years - golf is way down on the sports list there, and is very much seen as a rich man's game (and in Italy it is very expensive to play). If he wins most Italians will simply shrug - they would much rather win the World Cup.
Right now, a few hours after the third round has been completed, the lead story on the golf page has a headline How Tiger gave himself a chance to win the Masters. If you want to find out who is actually leading the Masters, you actually have to do a little work.
When he was younger was Tiger Woods a great golfer? Yes, hes already one of the best of all time. Does he have a chance to win the Masters now? Yes. Does he have the best chance? No. Who is actually leading the Masters, and isnt that the most important thing to be covering?
ESPN has an unhealthy obsession with Tiger Woods, just as it does with LeBron James and Duke basketball. All year, and particularly this week, IMHO Tiger Woods has been getting coverage unjustified by his performance, at the expense of people who have been golfing better than he has been. Certainly, if Tiger Woods wins the Masters after all he has been through it will be a nice story. Does it justify focusing on him at the expense of people have been actually leading the Masters (or other tournaments (this is been a problem for awhile)? No way. Every week it seems that the golf coverage is first and foremost about Tiger Woods, not about who wins. I wonder if Disney has some stake in promoting Tiger Woods, as it does with LeBron James. Clearly, it has less of a stake in promoting sports coverage that is most important to fans by traditional criteria.
The idiot wearing the Led Zepplin T-shirt, added to fill out your foursome next week, will fail to note the distinction.
"Tiger's shirt at the Masters didn't have a collar! What's your problem!"
Don’t like Dustin Johnson, either. Cocaine problem.
Supposedly DJ had some .... involvement.... with one or more players wives too in the past, adding to his unpopularity among the pros. He’s an extremely talented golfer though, but I don’t think he is really cut out for the limelight - he doesn’t like it. And then he does something stupid like falling down the stairs on the eve of The Master’s (two years ago) and has to withdraw because he hurt his back (that was the story anyway)
D J’s a lowlife. Continues to father illegitimate children with a woman he refuses to marry. Complete jackass that believes that laws, good manners and civility don’t apply to him.
ESPN pushes LeBron because ESPN - and ABC - are the NBA's primary broadcast networks. ESPN is just about all NBA all the time. As for Tiger... well, he brings in the casual viewers who normally don't give a damn about golf. Yeah, I do get tired of the Tiger Woods this, Tiger Woods that, as if there are no other players.
If Molinari wins that is a great story too - first Italian to ever win this tournament. But I suppose the broadcasters figure most Americans won’t give a damn if an Italian wins The Master’s.
This is kind of a treat. I’m going to be in my easy chair at 7:00 Mountain time, sipping a hot coffee in my fleecy jammies, watching the Masters.
Probably around 8:30 when Mrs. Slim gets up, we’ll have eggs and bacon watching the Masters.
Not a golfer, but when you live in the desert, Augusta is awfully pretty.
Yeah I thinker it's cool too. I can get up, have my coffee, then switch on the golf. A nice Sunday morning treat.
Beats the heck out of the Sunday morning political shows.
You have to read until the fourth paragraph to see the name Francesco Molinari, who is leading by two shots but merely described as there alongside Woods and Tony Finau. I dont know Molinari from Adam, but it seems ridiculous to make Tiger Woods the focus of coverage, at least until he actually wins. (Again, if he did so it would be a nice story.)
I dont know if Disney has any plans involving Tiger Woods, but it sure does look like it. I know they have plans involving Lebron James, but theres a lot more interesting stuff going on (the first weekend of the playoffs, after all) then him. But the last few weeks too much of the coverage has been about him and the Lakers, and all season theres been too much about his various entertainment-industry plans and so on. Whatever Disney-ESPN is about now, first and foremost its not sports.
I gave up on them over a decade ago.
Armchair observation; I'll bet I could even get backspin on a chip considering that beautiful grass. -I wouldn't bet much, I'm just sayin.
Tiger is as big as the game of golf. Maybe bigger. TV viewers double when he is in the hunt for a win. Truly remarkable.
I for one am happy that he has straightened out some of his life and having success again.
