To me, the “Lords of Kobol” was a ‘hidden’ reference to the early computer programming language of Cobol. I learned it in a college computer class back in 1968.

Now that you mention it, I remember thinking why aren't the other countries invading the United States in mass, given their localized weakness? Why would they all stay out of it? Wouldn't this be the rest of the world's chance to get even?
I always thought that was a plot hole.

Falling Skies was great at first, but changed writers and production staff to many times and always for the worse! DS9 was the best Star Trek series ever! Very gritty. Best episode that shows this is ‘In the Pale Moon Light’. Most interesting Star Trek character Garak!!!

Another show I thought was interesting was NBC's Revolution. This was about the loss of electricity across the globe, and civilization had to survive without it. Imagine life after an EMP.
Unfortunately, it devolved into a soap opera with all the usual heroes and villains.

Do you realize that The number of syllables in the verses allows “Tiptoe Through The Tulips” to transpose with “The Marine’s Hymn” in the same way “Amazing Grace” transposes with the theme to Gilligan’s Island?

successful TV shows that go on too long
That sounds like LOST. It went from intriguing to ridiculous, then unwatchable.

Does western with steampunk count as science fiction? I always thought that Brisco County Jr was a cute show.

Heroes and Twin Peaks suffered from the same problem. The writers could not keep up with the storyline.
Once Upon a Time was slipping into that same trap.

Vipers, like X-wing fighters, had air intakes and wings. Isn't this supposed to take place in space? There was one scene where they got too close, and you could see that the turbofan blades were molded into the body of the viper hull.
One realistic think I liked about the reimagined BSG is that the vipers could turn around and fly backwards, which is what you can do in space. What you can't do is just go in whatever direction you point your ship. There is no air pressure to vector against, like with airplanes.

I am probably misremembering, but I think I read somewhere that the poetry of Edna St Vincent Millay can be read to the tune of “The Eyes of Texas.
Try it with this.
My candle burns at both ends;
it will not last the night;
but ah, my foes, and oh, my friends —
it gives a lovely light!

Defiance had wrapped for the season and the cast had gone home when the decision to cancel it was made. SyFy let them come back and shoot the final episode to give the viewers closure on the series.
They could have left us hanging like usual.
