A sarcophagus containing an Egyptian high priest was opened on live TV Sunday during a special two-hour broadcast by the American channel Discovery.

'Expedition Unknown: Egypt Live' aired from the site outside Minya, which is along the Nile River south of Cairo and its Giza pyramids.

Archaeologists recently discovered a network of vertical shafts at the site which led to tunnels and tombs containing 40 mummies 'believed to be part of the noble elite.'

After exploring other tombs -- finding artifacts like statues, amulets, canopic jars used to store organs, and other mummies including one that had decomposed to a skeleton -- they crawled to the chamber containing the intricately carved sarcophagus.

After the sarcophagus was opened the video cut off. Viewers heard screaming then dead silence.

Or, alternatively, it was like Geraldo’s exploration of Al Capone’s secret tunnel. A big nothing. Or perhaps, a puff of dust.

I’m rather surprised that islam hadn’t torn these monuments down over the last 1400 years.

Josh, the wonder dog, was holding forth. Real archaeologists and historians were horrified.

it was like Geraldo’s exploration of Al Capone’s secret tunnel.

It was Al Capone's vault...which held a whole lot of nothing.

Nothing.

My point. Did anything exotic happen when they popped the sarcophagus?

It might have been “live-TV”, but I doubt it was live. According to my calculations, 8:00 PM EDT works out to maybe 2:00-3:00 AM in Egypt.

‘This could be a game changer’ !!!

Surprised there are no comments on the narrow noses and other facial characteristics of these late ancient Egyptians.

Not true. He did find a old beer bottle. I remember watching this stupid show. When they gave Whorealdo the Tommy gun to shoot he went stupid with it.

It looks like you and I are the only two here who watched it. I thought it was quite interesting too. I don’t know that I could have crawled to the chamber where the sarcophagus was though. MIGHTY close quarters in that tunnel. *shudder*
