Notice I posted this to the cheese hole, in hopes of a couple of responses. Prove me wrong...let's see if this thread hits 100...heck 50 from the cheesehole of chat.
As a follow-up to yesterday's post : Tech Ping: Chickensoup is in Hot Water. Computer Died a Horrible Death. Need to Save Its Soul!

I am now in the market for a new computer.
Your recommendations.
I like powerful computers, money is less of an issue than configuration. This laptop is only moving between desk and home.
Got to haves: 17" screen really fast nice color Good fans and airflows removable battery usb ports 2 or 3 Ethernet port card port for camera cards and others blue tooth wifi
Nice to have CD drive Touch screen doesn't flipping matter.
Sadly I have to move to WIN 10 and upgrade office from 2003.
Your recommendations and experiences would be great.
A big bowl of chickensoup to the recommendation that I choose!
“Sadly I have to move to WIN 10 and upgrade office from 2003.”
Go with a refurbished or new MacBook Pro.
Install the software: Parallels ($60 +/-)
Once Parallels is installed then you install a ‘system builder’ disk of either Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 (8.1 has the option of ‘classic’ install)
Now your Mac has a RELIABLE Windows OS inside of it and you can install all the Windows software you would like — I have a Mac running W7 with Office 2003, Office Professional 2007, Office Professional 2010 and Office 2016.
Update your IE to version 11 then turn off updates!
You will have a rock solid computer running Windows 8.1 (likely) and have all of your wonderful software.
Mac and Windows operate simultaneously so you can cut, copy and paste between the two seamlessly.
The battery will last forever so you will not need to ‘change it.’
I am no authority and I don’t know if these folks are an authority either:

Dell has a refurb site for machines that are off lease.https://www.dell.com/learn/us/en/22/campaigns/outlet?c=us&l=en&s=dfh
Most of these units a 2-3 years old and come with a Dell warranty for a few months.
And they do have 17 and 18 inch models.
Is the free Obama Laptop still being given away?
I use a drop-it-in-my-shirt-pocket 4TB USB remote hard drive to “share everything”. In fact, both my desk top and laptop could crash simultaneously and everything I have is fine, because not a spec of my own stuff sits resident on either one of them. But “the cloud” I have no need of whatsoever.
I checked for you.
Now that your eyes are older, you may want to get a larger size.
If you want a large American built unit, American Tourister manufactures a 36” suitcase - with handle.
Back when floppy meant floppy...
Nice systems. Serious hardware. No Windows.
Asus has some good laptops. You will find you like Win 10. 8 $ucked.
This would be the isle to find me on.
” Never Toshiba,,,,”They are on my Banned For Life List. “
Me too.
I was surprised, after reading your comment, when I went and checked and found that company is still in the computer business. I guess they have a large “captive” customer base in Japan, and plenty of computer service places that can work with them.
I dont want to own an orphan. ....
I have several PC orphans.
Thanks for raising the question...great responses!
Lenovos all have the software for hacking the Pentagon and CIA built in since they are all made in Communist China.

I have two. Monster desk top and pretty exotic LapTop. You can build your own specs with them and I couldn't recommend them any higher.
You can also have one or more external monitors. At home, I have a 32-inch monitor, at work I have a pair of large monitors. They plug into my laptop’s HDMI port.
You can get a laptop that has a SSD drive and storage space for a 2.5” hard drive. That extra storage you use for everything including a backup of the SSD files. A 17” one could have two 2.5” drives and a SSD.
3 drives

That’s a laptop?
Oh, yeah. Jerry Nadler’s lap.
