Getting up to pee in the night is an early warning sign for heart attack and stroke...

HAVING to get up in the middle of the night to pee could mean you have high blood pressure, scientists have discovered.

The risk is raised by 40 per cent by trips to the loo. And the more times you get up, the higher the chance.

High blood pressure can lead to heart attacks and strokes if left untreated. More than one in four adults in the UK have high blood pressure, although many won't realise it.

Dr Satoshi Konno of Japan’s Tohoku Rosai Hospital, which quizzed 3,749 people, warned sufferers to cut salt intake.

Compared to western countries, people in Japan eat more salt and are more likely to be "salt sensitive", meaning that their blood pressure rises more when salt is consumed.

Taken together, these two factors mean that people in Japan are at greater risk of developing high blood pressure.

“As long as it doesn’t hurt when you pee.”

It jumped right up and grabbed my meat.

IOW, don't get up. Pee in the bed and you'll be fine.

Do people not proof read anymore?

The best indicator of high blood pressure is the reading on the blood pressure cuff. If it is high you have high blood pressure.

Junk article. I piss like a banshee and have had low blood pressure my entire life.

Drinking a lot of water and coffee is a good predictor of frequent urination - happens to be my reason so I know this is true from personal experience.

There is no proof that cutting salt intake does anything. In fact in one larger study those who cut salt intake died sooner.

Don’t use extra salt, on BP meds, also post CABAG Pee 2-3 times a night. The gift that keeps on giving (bladder cancer determined to be from the Water at Camp LeJeune) Treatments on chemo days pissing every 15 minutes for 6+ hours from the irritation is maddening. I’ll call the BS flag on this study, with a reminder that medicine is a practice, not an exact science even if the acolytes of the faith insist it is.

The study stated that exercise is better than couch potato. So yes, walking is great.

Also overdoing like running marathons had ZERO benefit. It was the same as a couch potato. So famous runners who died early were like a couch potato.

Yes. Or you may have drank a lot of water that day and you still have to go to the bathroom at night. Also, men over the age of 50 commonly have a prostate that is causing an obstruction to the urethra. Not Unusual. Has nothing to do with high blood pressure or heart attack. Just visited my urologist last week and and he recommended a relatively new procedure called urolift. Currently checking out that option.

Enlarged prostate! See a good urologist and don’t pay much to what’s on the internet.

AMEN....

Dr OZ says that as women & men get older, our bladders don’t ‘stretch’ as much as when we were younger.

Hence, we have to pee more often.

IIRC, the 1961 El Cid film with Charlton Heston was the only one.

Wouldn’t be PC to remake it nowadays; might offend Muslims.

Which is ironic because the real Ruy Diaz de Vivar made allies of Moors who were less than observant Muslims, against the Islamic fanatics of the time.

Anyway, I graduated from The Citadel in 1970, which we cadets referred to as `El Cid’, hence my username.

And Jews in Palestine were only notified of the UN partition plan in 1947; they proclaimed the State of Israel in May 1948 and were instantly attacked by five Arab armies.

OK, here’s a Six Day War joke: the Israeli victory so stunned the world in 1967 that Cassius Clay changed his name from Muhammad Ali to Morris Finkelstein.

;^)

Again, that’s BS. You said it and now you’re trying to spin it.

Enjoy your runs.
