Law & Order: SVU and its star Mariska Hargitay have cemented their places in television history. NBC has renewed Dick Wolf’s series for a record-setting 21st season, making it TV’s longest-running primetime live-action series, surpassing the previous mark of 20 seasons set by mothership series Law & Order (1990-2010) and Gunsmoke (1955-75). And the police procedural may not been done rewriting TV records books as I hear Season 21 is not currently envisioned as a final chapter.
The renewal also marks a milestone for Hargitay’s Lt. Benson as the longest-running character in a primetime live-action series. Hargitay surpassed Gunsmoke‘s James Arness and Milburn Stone as well as Kelsey Grammer who have all portrayed the same character for 20 consecutive seasons. (Grammer did it as Frasier Crane on two series, Cheers and Frasier, and was a series regular for 17 of the seasons versus 20 for the other actors).
“We tip our cap to Dick Wolf, Mariska Hargitay and the amazing cast and crew of SVU, who now all go into the record book,” said Paul Telegdy and George Cheeks, Co-Chairmen, NBC Entertainment in making the announcement. “This incredible run is an example of what happens when producers, writers and actors all come together and create a show that, year after year, speaks to its audience in a powerful way. We couldn’t be more proud of this remarkable achievement.”

Somewhere there is a picture of Hardigay that looks 100 years old. Untilnabout 2 years ago she looked youngercand better each season.
Her plastic surgeon is a Rembrandt.
You never have to worry if you miss an episode, they’re all the same.
It turned into Law & Order: SJW years ago
They certainly project the “men are rapists & bigots” theme...typical of the long term producer.
I'm guess the franchise is going to a new low with the expected "Law & Order: Hate Crimes Unit"
Next season will include episodes featuring the arrest of a CIA director and the investigation of mail fraud involving multiple members of congress. /s

Mariska Hargitay lost some of her luster when she defended Blasey Ford. Otherwise she has my respect for a great series.
They had to apply her makeup with a trowel. You don’t think that took a lot of work?
I’m wondering when the PC lobby will force them to change from a SUV to an electric vehicle?

Have never watched Law & Order: SVU.
These stupid cop shows inculcate weak-minded people into believing that cops are heroic investigators who solve crimes in 30 minutes or less and are also 10-foot-tall Rambos who can protect big city weenies from fearsome rural cowboys and Trump supporters.
Cop shows are the ultimate bed time story for bed-wetting liberals and sales shows for survivalists selling bacon-flavored Y2K #10 cans of TVPs.
Most important thing I learned from the show is to never go near or let any kids you know go to Hudson University. If it were a real school, the feds would have closed it by now.
