Yep. They seem to have been immediately honest with the police when questioned. They might have thought it was a publicity stunt without illegal intent. No reason they would know what Smollett was going to claim.

They bought the rope and ski masks and bleach. They met him near the Subway and gave him the rope. Don't know why they bought the ski masks.
My guess is that they were supposed to 'attack' him, pour a little bleach on him, but they decided that they didn't want to risk it in front of cameras, even with masks on. SO... he poured some bleach on his clothes and banged his head against a wall.
That is why the police didn't press charges against the brothers. I imagine they told police they didn't go along with the fake attack. Which would explain why the records are now SEALED. Jussie can't have that info get out in public.
