The plan to legalize weed in New Jersey went up in smoke Monday.

Lawmakers canceled a vote to allow adults in the Garden State to buy recreational marijuana, saying there simply isn’t enough support for the growing movement right now, according to a report.

I see what you did there. ;)

But yeah. I’ve not touched the stuff since 1977, but if I were to start today, I’d definitely grow my own.

Because if they did legalize

They would not get the potheads out in the next election

They need votes, so they need to keep this issue alive

Drug companies headquartered in New Jersey squashed this. They will lose millions if pot is legalized.

translation: Too many of them are in the pockets of the Tony Soprano-types who control the illegal trade, and who didn't like this one bit.

This idea began years ago. Sen. Scutari introduced this legislation under anti-marijuana Chris Christie. Scutari admitted it was doomed under such a governor and that he introduced it to get the conversation started. It could have come to fruition Monday, but it was not to be. After campaigning on this, then vowing he could get it done in his first 90 days, Murphy never showed enough leadership to get it off the ground. Delay after delay, with many bouts of infighting, his entire first year in office came and went without the promise fulfilled. It finally came down to a grand announcement several weeks ago among Democratic leaders and our governor that they had finally reached a legislative package to legalize marijuana.

It failed.

Now it won’t even be reconsidered until after the fall elections. With Murphy’s statement a few days ago of, “It’s Monday or never” is there really any reason to believe New Jersey will ever have it at all? Recent polls showed the majority of New Jerseyans wanted legalization. It’s shocking that on an issue embraced by the people, with a Democratic legislature at his fingertips, Murphy didn’t have the leadership to sway a few votes. Is this what happens when a man who has never held elected office before becomes governor? Trenton is not Goldman Sachs. Murphy already proved himself in shady hiring practices and the lack of ability to manage snow storms. Now he’s shown he sucks at making deals too.

Stunned that “New Jersey” and “common sense” can even be placed next to each other. I hope they are the first of many states to just say no.

Knowing the crime and addiction stats from a state that has legalized, I think they should all slow down. High tax states are doing it because they can’t squeeze any more money for socialism out of their tax payers and they see pot as a great revenue stream, never even considering its ultimate costs.

I don’t know what happened? Smoked it maybe a dozen or so times as a yoot and it made me laugh is all.

I tried it about 5 years ago for pain, my heart went insane and I almost went into cardiac arrest!

My friend, who is a pretty big smoker, was smoking it too and said it was just fine.

That’s what I get for doing an illegal drug at 45.

Now I just pop a few advil pm.

If it worked for pain and/or anxiety to any decent effect, there go roxys and oxys and percs and xanax and klonopin and lyrica and neurontin and...

I don’t partake, but I call absolute BS on this when comparing to other states and the nation since the 60’s. It is outright propaganda.

“there simply isn’t enough support for the growing movement right now, according to a report.”

Don’t support it but this is total BS... The “Gov” himself most likely partakes.

The Dems control both Houses in the NJ leg. I think they were afraid of owning it and everything that went with it.

I wonder if we ought to license the use. Go in for an exam to determine whether and how susceptible to addiction and overuse. Take a few tests.

Same with alcohol.

Same with voting.

People who cannot control themselves have no business in certain areas of life and responsibility.

“I tried it about 5 years ago for pain, my heart went insane and I almost went into cardiac arrest!”

I take it for pain. Before I started taking it, I was clean for almost 20 years. The took away my Norco so I started smoking. I actually prefer the Norco.

With respect to pain relief, it is most comparable to neurontin in my experience, but with benzo-like mental calming effects if you get the dosage just right (you didn’t; and it takes some experience to get there). I did have pretty good results using it against nerve pain, but the quasi-analgesic effect lasted only as long as the other effects (~2 hours), which wasn’t that useful. I’m not willing to get re-stoned every couple of hours. Incidentally, CBD by itself didn’t help with this, although the 10mg dosage might not have been high enough.
