Apple’s newly updated iMacs offer faster processors, much-improved graphics, and more.

Apple’s newly updated iMacs have plenty to offer enterprise and consumer users, not least of which are its faster processors and much-improved graphics performance.

At the movies
It is interesting to note that Apple chose to announce these new Macs with nothing but a press release, even though they’ve not seen significant update since WWDC 2017.

This likely reflects the importance with which the company sees the launch of its disintermediated video streaming service in March 2019 Making the decision to release updated iPads and iMacs in the week before launching the service shows the company’s determination not to divert focus from that launch.

#8 We don’t even have a desk in the house anymore now that the kids have all moved out.

Ask the kids to bring the furniture back : )

I thought they were working on a customizable Pro. Maybe coming after iMac?

I always replace my Pro machines after the Apple Care runs out, and I can’t do it now because there’s no new machines to buy!

We bought a new MacPro last year to replace one of the old towers as a high speed server. Unknown to most pro users is the fact that Apple quietly upgrades the processors over the years of production. Ours had the latest, greatest Xeon processor for the number of cores we wanted installed in it.

I can’t use an iMac as I have two 30” Dell monitors, one for my apps, the other for the tools and palettes, and an iMac has an integral display, one I can’t use.

I don’t want a cube, the Mini, as I need Xeon servers and error correcting RAM.

The iMac Pro has up to an 18 core Xeon processor, up to 256GB ECC RAM, a 5K 27" IPS screen, and can drive two more 5K monitors (including Dell’s monitors).

Well, THAT is very interesting! So my 12-core Xeon E5’s would be updated if I bought another trash can model?!

I thought the design remained static.

Very good to know, thank you!

I’m afraid the iMac display would just get in the way.

My setup is one 30” monitor in front of me, the 2nd one to the left.

If the iMac 27” was the main display it’d be too small for me, and if I set it up as the tools/palettes monitor i’d lose the nice 30” tools monitor I have to the left of my main monitor, which works nicely for my setup as both monitors are the same size.

Thanks, though.

I really appreciate knowing about the chips being updated!

Ed

By the way, a fully configured iMac Pro with everything I mentioned and a 4TB SSD would only set you back by a mere pittance (LOL) of $15,699.00.

That’s about the highest priced Mac since the fully configured Mac II way back in the late 1980s which could top $20,000.

But can it play Apex Legends? No? Then it sucks! /sarc

Right now, I’d wait a few months. I think the modular Mac Pro is due out. The people in my office were wanting to upgrade our seven year old office iMacs a couple of weeks ago. I said wait a month. Obviously I was right.

My six year old Mac Pro is definitely showing it’s age.

PLEASE, Apple, release the new modular Mac Pro or I will have to resort to a Windows PC (shudder)!

It’s what you’re used to that counts.

Um, there’s a new Mac Pro they announced last year. Looks like an iMac. 5K screen, Radeon Graphics, Xenon Processors (up to 18 cores).

Not cheap, but power rarely is.

Geez!

My 2017, 27 inch, 4 core i7 with 32 GB RAM, and 8 GB Radeon Pro feels woefully inadequate now! It replaced my iMac from 2007 which finally gave up the ghost of Steve Jobs.

Those price cuts aren’t for the basic computers. . . and reflect the major drop in commodity prices for Hard drives, DRAM and SSDs of late brought about by an overall weakening of the cellular phone and PC markets.
