My Blood Glucose Was 1100 Yesterday
My Glucose Meter | 3/19/2019 | By Laz A. Mataz

Posted on 03/19/2019 8:52:42 AM PDT by Lazamataz

Yesterday I measured my blood glucose when I was experiencing ravenous thirst. I would drink a quart of water, then on the last gulp, experience an intense thirst. I knew something was wrong.

I measured on the meter and it said "HIGH, OVER 600 mg/dL". It was too high for the meter.

I took 40 units of long-acting insulin and 50 units of a sliding-scale immediate-acting insulin, and in 4 hours I was at 460 mg/dL b/g. Based on how insulin is processed in my body, I extrapolate that at one point I was at 1,100 mg/dL b/g.

I felt death close by me.

I am so concerned about a thug or a government killing me, but the reality is I will die from disease. All my guns won't protect me from diabetes.

Second that advice. You can’t shotgun the insulin and guess the result metabolically. something is screwed up in your maintenance— unless you sugar loaded with grain alcohol. Please, asap. Best, JR Mosby.

That’s really high. I find if my blood sugar is high, I take about 1/3 a cup (or more) of apple cider vinegar mixed with 8oz of water and drink the entire glass.

Tastes like crap, but it brings the sugar level down pretty quickly. At least in my case. Hope it works for you.

“I am so concerned about a thug or a government killing me, but the reality is I will die from disease. All my guns won’t protect me from diabetes.”

I had this epiphany very recently. Went to get a checkup for the first time in 6 years because my daughter was badgering me. Mine was nothing like that but was right above the edge of type 2.

I realized the same thing you did. Ive had some major diet changes and am about to start the walking component to this effort.

I thought you were kidding too (mostly).

I had the exact symptoms too a couple years ago (drinking water and I had rapid weight loss and thought it was a good thing). I told the doctor and he tested my blood and sent me to the ER. Readings weren’t as high as yours but still way, way high. So they force-fed me carbs for three days and insulin to counteract the carbs and sent me home with needles and said to stick myself for the rest of my life.

Now, I’m NOT saying to do this, BUT....I immediately threw out all the carbs and sugar and packaged food in the house and started cooking meats and lean vegetables in olive oil (whole eggs too) and within a couple weeks I never again had a BG reading over 150 (now it’s never over 130). Still borderline, but my doctor had to take me back off insulin and put me on Metformin after admitting there wasn’t a need for me to continue.

I’m not trying to preach and I’m not saying this will work for you. That’s just what happened with me. I don’t touch sweets or pasta but I’m not starving (I have eggs and bacon just about every day) and I’m not sticking myself and my readings are staying in the lower (borderline) range. Cholesterol readings likewise.

Are there any internal organs Alyssa Milano could donate to you to help your situation?

Metformin behaves like an antioxidant and could be useful to just about everyone, if not prescription. It brings down blood sugar, but it also helps the body heal and even serves as an anti-aging compound.

I’d take it, if I could, and I have no issues.

My son has diabetes and I can confirm that exercise is vital to your health. My son travels for work extensively and he’s always in the gym or when home plays lots of baseball. His diet is protein strong but doesn’t ignore the carbs. Also, keep skittles in your car if u happen to go low. The way skittles are made the sugar gets into the bloodstream quickly. Prayers up!

Terry Cruz —the ex-NFL funny guy who plays crazy people in the movies and on TV (Idiocrazy, White Chicks)

He eats one meal per day - OMAD. I mean he has done that for over 20 years.

I thought that was crazy. I started doing it. It was hard for two weeks.

Now I do it w/o even thinking about it.

I stopped all soda, all juices, etc.

I never got diabetes but I believe I was headed down that road.

Your story is really good for me to hear.

Go see an Endocrinoligist. I used to always be over 200 even when taking 130 units of long acting per day. Endocrinoligist put me on Actose and Trulicity and now I’m under 130 on 80 units per day and I continue to decrease that.

My advice...based on 20+ years working in the Longwood Medical Area (which is what they call the huge collection of hospitals and research labs surrounding Harvard Medical School)...is Joslin Clinic.

If you've never heard of it google it. It is,by far,the finest diabetes treatment and research center in the world.

It’s another enslavement drug. It’s there to mitigate a condition, not cure it.

The money that the FedGov put into that stupid food pyramid with a foundation built out of simply carbohydrates, and then fast forward to today where Type 2 is just an accepted outcome of turning 40 to 50?

They have known since the 50’s that keto was a proven, sustainable method of weight loss and stabilization with zero side effects. They vilified fat as a main source of nutrient energy.

Someone pointed out that the most interesting thing about the Zapruder film, the film that showed the impact of the bullets striking President Kennedy, wasn’t the assassination itself. It was the observation that there were no obese people in the film. The diet in that time was protein/fat based.

It was a great statistical sample.

I should mention your story really scared me.

You make this place much more fun, plus you have a dirty sense of humor, like me.

I am hoping you will stay around a really long time so I’m not the only freeping scum sucker.

Damn, man. I've never had any diabetic issues, but last year I had to start taking a cholesteral med.

It's called Atorvastatin, I call it Anna Torv statin.

You should still have my phone number, if you want to whine to somebody.

Oh, dear. That sounds absolutely miserable. I hope you will do whatever one is supposed to do in these circumstances as quickly and diligently as possible. We can’t lose you: there are far too many people in the world who are NO FUN.

WOW...get to the doc asap

As many here have said..avoid the carbs and sugar (and its synthetic substitutes) and exercise (walking, stretching, use the stairs and find a local gym that has the super slow exercise program...20 mins a week)

The book:

And start home cooking with healthy meals...at least cook once a week

Here is the recipe book

Subtitle of the book: "Lessons on Food, Life and Longevity from the Greek Island of Ikaria, where people forget to die"
Mrs Spokeshave is from Ikaria, so I live the story.

Dear Laz, please see your doctor soon (if you’re reluctant, find a good doctor who’s also a beautiful woman so that you’ll look forward to appointments) and take care of yourself!

You’re very loved and appreciated and we need your incorrigible self to hang around here for a long, long time.

Much love and a *huge hug*,
pax
